Ask Dan Anything...
Dan, how did you get started with Hoop Ball?
Dan, thanks for making this thread for people like me w/o Twitter. I started listening to your hoop-ball pod a couple of weeks ago, been hooked ever since.
I’m in a 12 team 9 category league. Aldridge for Gobert? Too soon?
Is Mason Plumlee a good pick up?
@Auron - hold onto Chandler. I think he picks up a lot of the Millsap slack since he can slide up to the PF spot from time to time. Faried less so.
@Jermaine - I'll try to look at the lines more on my show. I nailed that Cavs call!
@toconnell - If you can stash, then definitely. If your league is unlimited games played, might be out too long.
@Brian - I wish the story was more interesting. I emailed Bruski right after he started the site to ask if he could teach me how to write for fantasy. He said, "Wait, you're a professional broadcaster?" I said yes. And he basically said, "I'll be happy to teach you whatever you want, but you may be able to better use your skills in A/V. That was March, 2016. A year and a half later, I'm in charge of all Multimedia here! Just goes to show you, always ask - the worst thing that happens is someone says no.
@gurena - That's a very clever buy low. If your team can withstand a month without a center, then yes. If you're already kinda teetering in those big man stats, it might be too much to swallow. But I like the idea! And thanks for listening to the show!!
@Miguel - I don't think so. I get the feeling it's going to be mostly Faried, Hernangomez, and Chandler soaking up those PF mins. I think this could be the window Wilson needed to get some more shots up and get a bit closer to the rim, too. Wilson may start posting Markieff 2016 type lines.
Dan — sincerely appreciate your Podcast and moreover your availability to answer all these forum questions. Since 1992 I’ve been part of an 8-cat roto League. Just dropped Olynyk to pick up Seth Curry as I’m in desperate need of 3s, steals, and points. Question (1) where do you see Curry finishing (Top 100, 75, better/worse?) and (2) given the well-documented Richaun situation would you suggest I part ways with Holmes if I can snag Denzel Valentine in our weekly waiver pickup? Blocks are also a war.
Followed you guys here due to the Bruski 150 fro his RW days. Has never failed me - this year included (even though I took Dieng in the 8th).
All the best, Paully in Japan
I just typed a really thoughtful, long response, and it just vanished. Sometimes, Hoop Ball, you kill me. The quick version:
Curry, probably top-80/85ish
Holmes, still a luxury stash and, to me, more valuable than a few weeks of hot Denzel.
Thanks for listening, as always! Tell your pals about the pod!! 🙂
Thanks, Dan. Grabbing more listeners on Fantasy Podcasts — particularly those well produced and insightful as yours — has gotta be a double-edged sword for you gents. Whereas in most cases a good product will flourish through word-of-mouth, the greater the fantasy hoops counsel the smaller the appetite to tell the buds about this. Apologies if this smacks of bastardness, but I just cannot give up the Golden Goose. I just can’t.
11 team 9 cat roto
Was offered Wall for my Aaron Gordon and Dragic. Good deal for me?
ROS 9cat H2H pick 2 G Hill, Austin rivers and Courtney Lee
Your favourite guy in the Milsap saga is on the wire and hist stats fit some gaps.
2 questions
- assuming chandler plays well today, Who is the drop? Markeiff, Chriss, or Collins. Leanin Keiff because i am short on prpductove centres and need chriss for blocks upside.
- whats your the best fruit juice/smoothie combination?
Millsap holmes Olynyk mirotic Monroe all in my team..
Need some short term production but cant find much on the wire!
Anyone players you would recommend to pick up that could help over the next few weeks?
Struggling for blocks and fg percentage
9 cat 12 team roto scoring
@navymcat - tell anyone you know NOT in your league. Haha.
@Anthony - I love it. Gordon is declining toward his full season value (probably more of a top-40 guy when all is said and done), and Goran Dragic has issues clearing the top-50 because he's not a great foul shooter or 3-pt guy. Wall could be an end-of-1st round guy by season's end. Huge get.
@Brian - Hill and Lee. I detest Austin Rivers' fantasy game.
@Keiran - Hahaha, love question 2. I think you definitely need to pick up Chandler. If he succeeds, 3 months is a long time to produce. I think I'd drop Chriss. He looks lost most nights despite his insane blocks upside. Problem is, you have 3 guys with nice upside so it's hard to pick a drop. 'Kieff is actually kind of a buy low right now, since he's still working his way toward a full minute load. I'm not dropping a proven top-75 asset like 'Kieff. Collins had 2 hot games - maybe you could trade him but you can't drop a guy with that level of hype.
I'm a simple man with a lactose-free digestive system. I always liked orange juice with honey added. Fairly plain, but quite delicious.
@AM007 - Sheesh. That's a lot of stash-type guys. You know my love for Niko, so don't expect me to tell you to drop him. Can't really drop Millsap either *unless you're in an unlimited games format* ... you could probably cut bait on Monroe with Tyson Chandler coming back, and then Holmes is my next cut since it seems like he's still at least a few weeks away from wedging past Amir Johnson ... and to this point, Embiid is mostly healthy.
I'd have to see your wire to see what guys are available, but in a 12-team league there's usually something floating about. Who's a FA?
Dan,
I thought so.... but i am almost as emotionally committed to Chriss as you are Mirotic. Held him all last season too, and reaped the late season rewards.
Even whilst looking lost he is producing 160 value.... Nurks at 224 because of his TO amd FT... Chriss or Nurk? ( i know its still chriss getting dropped...)
I really need to find some 2 for 1 and consolidate some talent!
Orange, apple, ginger would be my go-to.
Hey Dan,
Lost Millsap and I know I won't be able to get that production from the wire. Thankfully I have Chandler! Which one of my players would you trade for John Collins, as I am looking for a 3rd center in the league. Thanks!
