Hey man! Another deep 18-man league, awesome. I can tell the picks aren't in draft order so I'll try my best and focus more on how the team ended up instead of where you got people.
Dame Dash and Conley are a great coup to start off your guard sets. Oladipo is an intriguing sleeper, though it'll be a while until he plays and gets a full complement of minutes. If that happens sooner rather than later, this will be an awesome trio of guards. You have Gordon's reliable shooting and the literal question mark of Kris Dunn to round out the group. It's no secret the Bulls' brass doesn't like Dunn, even before signing Sataransky and drafting White. But with his price tag in the tank right now he's worth the flier in hopes he finds his groove again, whether it's on the Bulls or another team.
Your big men are solid as well with Siakam leading the way. Harrell is a fun guy to own with how much energy he brings to each game and the stats he can provide even in limited minutes. Horford is as reliable as it gets and now moves back to what always seemed like his natural position on a star-studded team. Kuzma should see a lot of open shots in the Lakers offense when he gets healthy. Baynes is a deep-sleeper who may play more than people think.
You did a good job of rounding out your team in a very deep league and avoided wings sans Troy Brown. That's a pretty good strategy and one that was implemented more before the emergence of small-ball. While you won't be dominant in any, you should be able to compete in the majority of categories (blocks being a weak point) and that is what you're hoping to achieve in a deeper draft.
Hey man, before I start, yeah I'd pick up Collins now. He has too much upside to be on the waiver wire right now. Without much competition, he will start. If you wait for confirmation, he might not be there by then. Though your team is deep in a 10 man standard league.
10 team leagues are fun as everyone's roster looks good on paper, and this team is no different. I agree George at 16 is the right range. He's going to miss the start of the season and now on a new team, but he had first-round value before injuring his shoulders last year, and that was with another high-usage superstar player on his team. He can easily return to that value when he gets healed up.
Curry has many factors working in his favor to return to the elite of the elite in fantasy. I think you'll be among the leaders in assists and it has more to do with getting Bam, Gasol, and George who will provide a big boost to the solid guards you have already. Wright Conley and SGA round out a very effective 4 man-guard group.
You have a fun collection of bigs with Mitch, Bam, and Gasol. Mitch should stay among the leaders in blocks, and Bam looks like he's on the verge of becoming a household name. Gasol is Gasol and will help in every category as usual. Powell is a nice late-round big man. Bertans could be dropped for Collins, but that team continues to take a beating, he's looking at a sizable role to start the season.
Lamb is bound to lose time later in the season when Dipo is ready to play big minutes, but he'll be a good source of threes until then. Porter has been an underrated all-around fantasy performer for a few years now and that shouldn't change this year. Isaac has huge defensive potential and will swing your team if he can reach it.
All in all, your team is a very well-rounded team that should compete in every category. With Curry and George leading the way with an exciting big man group, I like your chances at making a run.
Unbelievable Santiago! Thank you! You are a machine!
I did a mock with some top fantasy heavyweights , I was very lucky to get in this mock. It’s a H2H 14 team league 9Cats with 2 Center position. I realize that picking 12th is just horrible!!! This is my team
Irving
Vuc
Conley
Markkanen
Bagley
Sabonis
Lamb
Powell
Gay
Saric
Jerami Grant
Bacon
Payton
Hi Santino,
loving your work on the thread so far and looking forward to your appearance on the hoopball podcast!
A bit confused about how I built my team this year, given that I have some high FG% bigs with not-so-great FT% combined with volume-stat guards.
PG: Harden
SG: DLo
SF: Butler
PF: Zion Williamson
C: Clint Capela
G: Terry Rozier
SG/SF: Josh Richardson
PF/C: Al Horford
UTIL: Derrick Favors
UTIL: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Also, someone sent me a trade for my Capela and DLo for his Booker and Montrez Harrell. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Hey man, good to hear from you. The second pick is a good one. I'm not sure where everyone went, but my first impression of this team: Deeeeeeeep group of bigs. They're all good players looking at starters minutes and good roles, with Allen's minutes being the only ones up in the air right now but should see roughly half at least. there aren't any who stand out in blocks or rebounds, but as a group, they'll be good together. Ayton and Bagley are looking to take the next step in their sophomore seasons while Nance is getting a full-time starting job and Collins should follow suit as a popular breakout candidate. Adams has been a solid force for a few years now.
Harden and Jrue are an excellent pair to start the backcourt with. Murray is reportedly healthy and looking good, but he is the only one behind those two, which means you may want to add another at some point. the wings are solid as well. With Ross, you know what you're getting at this point with him. Anderson has talent and if he's healthy he'll be a solid, if unspectacular, contributor in multiple areas. Ingram is the real wildcard here as he recently recovered from a blood clot and is now on a new team. Same pace, but different role. He was underwhelming playing next to Bron but put up numbers without him. In his new surroundings he'll be next to Zion, Jrue, Favors and the familiar Ball. He should fit in nicely but that might not translate to the fantasy box score. It's a good gamble to take.
The team doesn't wow me, but it'll be solid enough to get the job done. Harden gives you a leg up on the competition and he could get you to the playoffs alone, as I have seen far worse teams be carried by him. I expect that to happen for you as well with quality surroundings.
Kudos for getting into the mock with some fantasy heavyweights, that sounds like a fun experience. But luckily this was only a mock haha, cause I'm not too thrilled with the end product. Your pick number may have played a factor since you have so many picks in between each pick. Also, the level of competition probably played into it as well. You saying that the pick is horrible shows me you acknowledge that you're not thrilled with it either.
While you have some talented players, as all teams do, there's just something missing. The Pacers typically play at one of the slowest places in the league and you have 2 guys in the first 7 picks. For me personally, there's nothing too exciting about Lamb's game to take him as a 7th pick. Gay at 9 gives me the same feel. I wouldn't want to count on him as a starter on my team. Grant is good, but his role is up in the air also and he's your first guy off the bench. I've seen Powell and Saric go as bench guys in most leagues above me, so you got them a bit earlier as well. But that's what better competition will do to you.
Altogether it's a very shallow team that would seem destined to be on the outside looking in. I'd take this as a learning experience and use it to crush the draft when it actually counts.
I realize that in 14 teams league you will have to reach a bit as well PUNT especially with good competition. My aim for this mock was to punt blocks which i believe i did but IMO my major error was not reaching to take another guard earlier. I took Payton at the end of the draft to get a guard on the team but i chalk this one as a good learning experience.
Ohhh okay, my mistake, I thought it was a 12 man league and you had the last pick. 14 makes it a little different and changes my numbers around. But yeah, I think you could have gotten another one or two in that late starter/early bench range. Or at least a more exciting alternative. That's also me speaking from the outside and not in the draft so take it with a grain of salt.
What is the size of your normal league, and do you know your pick yet?
I have two leagues one is 12 and the other is 14 teams. I have the 5th pick in the 12 team league but the other league of 14 teams i will find out next week Sunday.
i will need to practice more on my punt block for the 14 team league. I always punt in 14 team leagues and usually punt FG% and TO but this time i feel the way the drafts are turning out punting blocks is excellent way to go.
What are your thoughts regarding punting in 14 team leagues and on my idea of blocks in this draft season with all the bigs out there.
I personally never look to enter a draft looking to punt categories. I like to get the best talent possible, and if that turns into a punt, then that's how it goes. With that said, I pay the least amount of attention to turnovers and points. Empty scorers are my least favorite fantasy players. And if you put up numbers and have the ball in their hands a lot, I expect the turnovers to come with it.
I am a huge fan of players that put up defensive numbers and tend to put the most emphasis on them haha so I'm not the one to ask about punting blocks. I like my bigs to come along with at least a block per game.
Hey, man thanks for the compliment! Shout out for an Australia guy!
I'm curious as to what pick you had, how many people were in this league, and f there are any bench players or everyone starts? There are only 10 players here, and if this team seems too stacked to be any deeper than a 10 man league. If it is, oh my. Even a 10 man, this is a fantastic team. I see that you said you were confused, but I'd be happy to have this collection of guys. I'd need a little more information to fully put this in context, but at a glance, this is an easy playoff team.
As I mentioned in a recent previous post earlier today, Harden can carry a team by himself. Butler is a stud, and the reports coming out about him showing up to practice 6 hours early are crazy and (if true) show he's ready to feast again as the focal point of the Heat. I've mentioned it a few times already but getting Zion could turn into another first rounder as there is sure to be one guy in every league who will pay a premium in a trade for him. That trade is really close but with the way your team is constructed, I'd say to keep Capela. You can't really make up for losing his rebound production.
The back end of the team is also above average. Rozier, SGA and j Rich add to your already loaded guards. Horford and Favors do a good job of complimenting Capela. I'm particularly keen on Favors bringing in an ROI for many fantasy owners this year as he'll be starting at the 5 and going to see minutes he hasn't seen in a while. His defensive numbers have always given him value even at capped minutes. Getting out of Utah's snail pace for an uptempo offense is another bonus.
You have a ton of talent on the team, especially in the guard/wing rotation. You should have no problem making the playoffs if it's a 12 man league. I'd like to have another big or two on the bench which would go a long way. You only sent 10 players so it's a bit shallow. You'll be in good shape to make a run though.
