Hi Derek, I hope you are well.  Thank you for your answers.  This time I wanted to tell you about a problem I have with my team.  The truth is that I am very happy with my roster, I have a 3-0 record, but there is something that complicates me.  I have three players from Utah, Markkanen, Vanderbilt and Sexton.  I think that is not good because it can happen that you have days with many players who play and other days where none play.  What do you recommmend me to do?  I thought about trading Markkanen, but was unsuccessful.  Also Vaderbilt, but I'm not sure.  I thought of Vandy by Keegan Murray.  And Sexton I can't sell him because he's down in numbers, but I believe in him a lot.  My league is about points, 12 teams, and this is my roster: D. Murray, A. Edwards, S. Barnes, Tatum, Vucevic, Rozier, Bane, Markkanen, Vanderbilt, Sengun, Anfernee Simons, Sexton and Jabari Smith Jr. I will be attentive to your answer.  A hug.

@husserx That's three first round players on one team. It's extra impressive that they're all guards, so there's a lot of synchronicity here. Barnes, Brown, Carter, Gobert and Wagner form a nice second tier of players that could realistically hover around or within top-50 range. That's basically half of your team, so you're set up well.

AST will be solid and reliable all season. You should have sufficient production there to beat most teams so long as Haliburton and Young stay healthy.

FG% isn't likely to be consistent enough to be reliable. You've got a few rookies and a bunch of high-usage guards, so even strong contributors like Carter and Gobert are likely to be outweighed in this area.

FT% is more likely to be competitive if Claxton is off your squad. He's really helpful in other areas, but trying to win FT% with him is like trying to swim with lead weights strapped to you. Gobert is barely ahead of him.

You're likely to be solid in PTS thanks to your top-heavy squad, so this is an area that you should continue to top up when and where possible. Streaming in extra scoring will help you get an edge in weekly matchups and I think it should be a priority. There's not much point in trying to stay competitive in FG% or TO, so the usual disclaimers about scorers on the waiver wire don't really apply here.

Between Carter, Claxton and Gobert, you'll have to be at least somewhat competitive in REB. They're the best of an otherwise unimpressive bunch, so it's only an area you should be trying to win in weeks when you're matched up against guard-oriented squads.

I think STL is a mid-level strength. Haliburton has staying power near the top of the rankings and Smith can probably hang around there for a while longer, so you have the top-end production. There's no much off a drop-off in this category outside of the center position, but I just don't see you regularly taking an edge in weekly matchups without streaming in supporting players.

BLK is likely to be a more reliable category for you. Between Claxton, Gobert and Smith, you have three of my preferred producers in this category. They should do most of the damage in your weekly matchups and I expect that should be enough.

You're not super competitive in 3PT, despite top-tier production from some of your players. There are simply too many non-shooters on this roster for you to expect to beat the teams that simply outnumber you with 3PT producers. It's not a category I'd worry about addressing by trade, since it's typically very easy to find floor-spacers on the wire. If you go the trade route, you should be looking to move one of your players that typically do all or most of their damage inside the arc.

Smith is your trade chip right now. I'd trade him for anyone in the top-75 range if I could. For an added bonus, I think it would be interesting to try pairing Smith plus Claxton or Murphy in a package deal that could allow you to consolidate top-tier talent and create a streaming spot. Keeping in mind that you lose production in certain areas if you trade Claxton (BLK, REB) or Murphy (FT%, STL, 3PT), you'll need to be sure that you're getting good production in other areas to compensate if you go that route.

In a 10-team league, it's hard for me to know who's available. Some of the names I list below might be trade targets instead of free agents. Either way, I think you're looking at potential top-100 valuations. Players that you might want to consider: Ayo Dosunmu, Bobby Portis, Bol Bol, Brook Lopez, Bruce Brown, Chris Boucher, Herb Jones, Isaiah Hartenstein, Isaiah Stewart, Ivica Zubac, Jaden McDaniels, Jarred Vanderbilt, Kevin Huerter, Kyle Kuzma, Marcus Morris, Monte Morris, PJ Washington, Santi Aldama, Tre Jones and Zach Collins.

@bufanda That's an interesting trade. I prefer Vanderbilt. Both are standard league assets but I think Vanderbilt has the better profile so far this season.

@bufanda I don't see it as a major problem that you have three Jazz players. Markkanen is one of the absolute best players in fantasy basketball this season, so that's a major asset for your team. Sexton is a top-100 guard that is capable of averaging 20 PPG and Vanderbilt is one of the most reliable REB and STL producers in the game, so they're also major boosts for you.

If one has to go, I would prefer to move Sexton. Markkanen and Vanderbilt are must-start players to me, so there's no reason to plan for a lineup that doesn't feature them. However, there are five guards on your squad that I would start before Sexton: Bane, Edwards, Murray, Rozier and Simons. It's possible that he might not fit in your starting lineup on some nights. November 7th and 9th are busy schedule days and you're likely to have to sit a few players. I bet Sexton is one of them.

Sexton's stock is starting to trend up now and people are starting to feel more confident in him. Start shopping him now and you might surprise yourself. He's in a timeshare with Jordan Clarkson right now but there have been lots of rumors about a Clarkson trade, so Sexton might also get a mid-season boost in production. That's a good reason to keep him, or a good selling point to the manager(s) you're trying to trade with.

You're off to a great start this year and you really don't need to make a move. There's no problem if you can make a trade that improves your team, but I don't see any cause for concern with your lineup right now.

@dballbball Hey Derek! Sorry I am back, but my team is faltering and I feel I need help.

Current Team:

Guards: Reggie Jackson,

Forwards: Giddey, Hart, Bridges, Barnes, Butler, Patrick Williams, Lebron, Oubre,

Centers: Vandey, Adams, AD, Poeltl

Once again, I’m punting 3PM, FT% and basically points at this point.

I am still in desperate need of a true PG and could probably use another shot blocking center, but am struggling to get trade packages out.

With Lebron not being Lebron, and Giddey and Poeltl underperforming I am desperate for more production. Also OKC and SA make me nervous with their situations.

I am awful at gauging value (which probably accounts for none of my trades being accepted) so I am wondering if you have any trade packages or trade ideas I can put together to help my team, or players I can flip for Poeltl, Giddey or anyone else?

Basically I need to be extra strong in REBS, TO, STLS, BLKS, FG% and TO to compete, and maybe swing PTS some weeks. I need to solidify my teams identity, and boost my teams production.

Any advice or feedback is always appreciated! Thank you!

Hi managers,

This is the official Rate My Team thread for the 2022-2023 NBA season. My name is Derek (Twitter @dballbball) and I'll be your host for the year.

Drop your team in this thread and I'll let you know where you're strong or weak, and what you can tweak. Text or photo is fine.

For best results, please give me some extra context. That could include categories, league size, league type, roster size, or any other settings that could change a player or team's valuation. Otherwise, my default answer will be for 12-team, 9-category leagues in a head-to-head format.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you this season!

DB

ESPN 14-Team Regular Points League. I sold Kawhi for Keegan Murray and Jaden Ivey. Did I make a good decision? Or should I have tried to find a better offer, if there were any.

@dballbball

Hey Derek, got a general question here:

In 9 cat roto, how do you go about addressing weakness in the "steal" category. Looking at the total "steals" over the season, O.G. Anuoby is the only real outlier with 35 steals --> then you have D. Murray at 25--> then you have a huge conglomerate of players ranging from 17-20. OG and D Murray are both 1st/early 2nd rounders.

If your team is doing well, is it advisable to plan trades based on "steals"? Or is "steals" a category that is too volatile to really plan your draft/trades around - and thus a category you just sort of go with the flow.

Currently, my team is sitting at #1 with steals being my worse category (3.5/12). Here's my roster. Do you recommend I trade for guys like O.G. and D. Murray?

PG: Trae Young
SG: J. Holiday
G: M. Conley
SF: J. Tatum
PF: B. Ingram
F: D. Vassell
C: J. Allen
C: M. Turner
Util: I. Hartenstein
Util: J. Murray

Bench: J. Hart, Al Horford, J. Vanderbilt
IL: M. Fultz

I just wanted your opinion on my 10t 9 cat espn squad. I want to see if you recommend any trades or pieces to move around to make my team better.

- Ja Morant

- Lebron James

- Paul George

- Julius Randle

- Jakob Poeltl

- Vassell

- Rudy Gobert

-Sengun

- Jamal Murray

- Keegan Murray

- Anfernee Simons

- Vanderbilt

- Morris Sr.

My FT% is kind of down, but my build is kind of punting that. Any help would be appreciated on who I should trade for, or acquire. Assists and 3pm lacking a little.

Available players on waiver: Horford, Hartenstein, Olynnk
