2024-25 NBA Draft Guide: One-Cat Studs

  • Once the first half of drafts has passed, managers will have built the core of their team and will be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their squad compared to other teams in their leagues. It is at that point that we as managers will invariably find ourselves looking for players with certain characteristics to fill out our roster. Whether that means looking for players whose strengths align with our team, or just fill a positional need, the later we get into a draft, the bigger the gap in valuations for certain players among managers can increase.

A good example for these sorts of players I am alluding to, are what we like to call at SportsEthos “One-Cat Studs.” These are players who provide strong value in a particular category compared to their output in others. This does not necessarily mean that the player provides positive value in just one category, but that they really should be viewed as a “specialist” for this particular category. In this article, I will highlight some of these types of players that managers should definitely target if the fit with their team makes sense or they are in need of a boost in a specific category. Again, just to emphasize, some of the players listed do provide value in other categories as well besides the one they are highlighted under, due to the correlation between certain categories. A good example for this can be a player who is strong at 3-pointers, who due to this will also provide decent value in the points category.

Let’s get into the list of players, starting with points.
