How’d We Get Here?
The Wizards were a complete mess last season after mercifully ending the Bradley Beal era. They spent the summer adding a few complementary veterans and were able to pick up some strong prospects on draft night, with Alexandre Sarr and Bub Carrington likely ready to contribute from day one and Kyshawn George offering some fun upside as a 6’8″ playmaker down the line. Trading Deni Avdija for Malcolm Brogdon doesn’t fit the timeline but it does clear the runway for Bilal Coulibaly while bringing in a veteran to shield Carrington from taking too many lumps, much in the same way that signing Jonas Valanciunas will protect Sarr. The playoffs aren’t a realistic goal but the Wizards have begun to assemble a collection of players who might get them there in a few seasons.
