How’d We Get Here?
The Bucks’ best-laid plans went up in smoke as the addition of Damian Lillard came with a big adjustment period, and it was one that ended up costing Adrian Griffin his job despite a strong record. There were underlying numbers that made the Bucks look like a legitimate contender even though they never hit their stride under Doc Rivers, but it was all moot as Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a calf injury shortly before the playoffs. Over the summer the Bucks made it a mission to revamp one of the league’s worst benches and you can call it mission accomplished with Delon Wright and Taurean Prince representing upgrades on former contributors, to say nothing of the upgrade that Gary Trent Jr. represents on Malik Beasley in the starting five. Some of Milwaukee’s younger prospects should also give the team better minutes than they were getting from household names. We’ll see what those marginal gains, plus a summer of Lillard fully immersed in the program, do for a team that has all the ingredients of a contender.
