2024-25 Draft Guide Team Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves

  • How’d We Get Here?

The Wolves were able to unfurl the big “Mission Accomplished” banner after knocking the Nuggets out of the playoffs. The team took a lot of heat for the prices paid to assemble all the pieces, but the Wolves had the perfect personnel to knock off the reigning champs. Unfortunately, that was only the second round, and in the Conference Finals they ran into a matchup nightmare. The offseason started quietly as the Wolves merely traded out some depth pieces that should improve offensive flow in the bench unit. The biggest transaction was trading a first-rounder to get Rob Dillingham with the 8th pick in the draft, laying the blueprints for the succession plan whenever Mike Conley rides off into the sunset. They rocked the league on the eve of preseason, however, trading Karl-Anthony Towns and his max contract to New York for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. It spreads the wealth and gives the Wolves a more balanced roster, as well as two more tradeable contracts. Only time will tell if it was the right choice.
