Paul’s Fantasy Baseball FAAB Recommendations – Week 1

  • Fantasy Baseball is SO BACK!

And that means we have FAAB bids to place!

Every week, I will be going through the names that are rostered 50% or under in TGFBI leagues.

Before I get into it, I am going to list some ‘honorable mentions’. These are going to be names that are available in my TGFBI league but are over 50% rostered. Maybe they’re also available in your FAAB leagues.

    • Max Scherzer (83%) – The veteran looks to open up his 2026 campaign against the Rockies outside of Coors. Sign me up for that. And he may have some lowend ROS appeal now that he seems to be healthy after dealing with a thumb issue in 2025. Even with the thumb he had a solid K% (22.9%) and BB% (6.4%). BID RECOMMENDATION – 2-3%.
    • Carson Williams (53%) – the Rays prospect is going to get a crack at the starting lineup to open up 2026 with injuries to Gavin Lux and Taylor Walls. If he can get his K% under control, he could lock down the role, even when the starters get healthy. He has power and speed. He should be cheap… for now. BID RECOMMENDATION – 2-5%

Now the dudes that meet the threshold, listed in order of roster%

NOTE – I’ll add more names throughout the weekend based on events that happen on Saturday and as I make my way through the full list of possible names.

    P Randy Vasquez – SDP – 40%

Throughout spring training I saw reports of an increased velocity and some intriguing things out of the usually unappealing fantasy arm. And well, that seems to have carried over into the regular season. Against the Tigers on Saturday he went six scoreless with two hits allowed and eight Ks. The four-seamer velo was up to 95 MPH vs. 93.5 last year; three other offerings (curveball, sinker and sweeper) each were two ticks or more up. The cutter had +3″ of horizontal break. He generated 13 whiffs (30.9% whiff%) as well. He is usually thought of as a low-ceiling dude with little K-upside. But if these changes stick… who knows, we may be on to something here. At age 27, it’s not like taking a next step is totally out of the question.

    BID RECOMMENDATION – 5-10%
