How’d We Get Here?
Can an entire organization take a mulligan? The Grizzlies made some moves in advance of 2023-24 to try and change their image but things never got off the ground. Memphis couldn’t tread water during Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension at the start of the season, and when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury just nine games into his campaign it was time to fold up shop. Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart missed a bunch of time and the losses piled up; the silver lining was that the Grizzlies got to see how Santi Aldama, GG Jackson, Vince Williams, Scotty Pippen and Jake LaRavia held up in expanded roles. Considering how little the Grizzlies actually got to see their intended roster last season, it’s no surprise that they didn’t do too much in the offseason. The only big difference is the addition of Zach Edey and the departure of Steven Adams.
