$500 buy-in!!! You guys play no games! You guys are going to have to start taking out loans to get through the different fantasy sports seasons lmao. I love it
Don't you hate that when the players you want keep getting taken right in front of you by that same friend who can get really annoying? Yeah, me too! For $500 I'd be really upset with any pick outside the top 7, because of the tier dropoff.
Porzingis at 33 requires some big cajones. Unicorn is a stud and a top 20 talent easily. But coming off that ACL tear with a team that is still building toward the future, it's easy to see them treating him like kid gloves. The 40 pick would have made me more at ease. Isaac has immense defensive upside, but another guy who has gone a bit later than where you got him at.
Even still, I like your draft overall. Even though I think those two guys went a tad early, they're still loaded with talent and upside. Porzingis has 2 block/2 steal potential. How many people can that be said for? Beal at 9 is starting to look more and more normal, and with the way that team looks right now he should get every opportunity to top last year's career year. A trade or injury is the only thing that can derail him as a usage monster.
You had some nice picks in the early-middle to late-middle rounds, starting with Tatum. If you take out %s Taytum improved in every stat last year and is looking to do it again. That's with him not being a good player last year. Everyone is excited about what Brogdon can do with a full complement of minutes and running the show. I'm on board with carter this year, he just needs to stay healthy and he can push for top-50 value. Him staying healthy is easier said than done at this point though as he is on the injury report nightly. Bridges and Collins are two nice popular pickups at the back end of the lineup. Your bench is different but also intriguing. Herro's role is up in the air still but he has looked really good this offseason, and Sexton was a top-10 pick last year who's basically free. not a bad lottery ticket.
You'll be on the lower end with assists, and aren't surefire elite in any cat, but you're well-rounded and will be competitive in most. You'll be able to fight for your chance at the dance. But beware that you have a lot of injury risk on your team, whether it's Carter or Porzingis, or Jrue who's only played more than 70 games once since 2012-13. Beal's pesky leg issues seem to have taken the Curry treatment and just disappeared the last few years which is a welcome sight for all.
Your draft looks like a rollercoaster ride with point guards and bigs haha. It worked out really well. I think you made your team very balanced because of it, and then added both multi-cat Bridges. I think you went too early on Sataransky, but the rest are pretty much in line with where they're going. I'd be satisfied with the team you drafted. You should be among the worst in turnovers (which I think is stupid anyway) but otherwise, you have a good team.
If you could find a fifth big to it, it'd be ideal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so. It's normal to be a little hesitant at first glance in a deeper league, but you were able to do well man. I've brought it up a few times, and I may be alone here, but I'm on board with the Fultz pick. In a deep league, you got him as what the 177th pick or so? He's going free in drafts and that late it's about talent and upside, which he has a lot of. I know as little as everyone else about his "injury" but at his price tag, it costs you nothing but a roster spot to find out and I'd rather be too early than too late with it. I know you want to trade Conley and JV, but you don't need to be in a rush to do so, they fit nicely with your squad. If you could get a top-20 guy though that is something to definitely contemplate.
Thank you Coach, much appreciated! It still has nothing on the Daily Fantasy HoopBall podcast!
Hey, Santino! What's good, brother??
Here's one of my recent big money drafts. It's 9CAT H2H with 2 IR slots. I got the 7th pick again...
7. Dame Lillard (Pretty standard at this spot)
18. Booker (a bit of a reach some would say, but a strong PG with solid assists...I liked him more than Trae)
31. Kristaps (true risk/reward, but I wanted a big here and JJJ already was off the board...also great blocks go early)
42. Conley (I really wanted Capela here, but got sniped...I didn't really want Conley until round 5, but with the PG scarcity, I'll take him)
55. Lowry (Old Fart Under Drafted...with him, I now had 4 elite PGs...could use one for trade bait if needed)
66. Whiteside (Probably a round or two earlier than me or anyone would like, but at this point Bigs were flying off the board...guys like Adams and Bryant were already gone, and I really could use a solid rebounder and secondary shot-blocker)
79. Gallinari (we all know the story here, but he fell a couple rounds and won me some leagues last year, and should score a lot this year, so I figured, "why not?")
90. Ingram (a round or two earlier than I wanted to go, but I thought he had the most upside of those available here)
103. Collin Sexton (a backup PG for my top 4 strong ones. He won't assist much, but I think he'll be solid at this range)
114. Zach Collins (I was really hurting for bigs, so one who could shoot 3s and block shots was a must-have)
127. Culver (Take-a-shot time. Talk is he could overtake Teague or at least become a starter before long)
138. Nurkic (with 2 IRs, I thought he was a no-brainer and good handcuff when I already had Whiteside and Collins)
151. Bamba (shooting for blocks here. He's had a good preseason and shores up my blocks)
My evaluation at a glance: I think I'm great in points, triples, assists and FT. I think I'm strong in blocks. I'm probably losing rebounds most weeks. I'm not quite sure how I'm looking in FG, steals and turnovers.
What do you think, Santino?
Everyone in the top 5 is going to be elite, but getting Giannis at 4 still has to put a smile on your face. He’s the reigning MVP and honestly, we still don’t know what the guys ceiling is. You went with the Zion Express and got him in a perfect spot. The third-round still lets you get two other top guys and takes out some of the risks with him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his ADP rise with another big preseason game. I’ve said it a few times previously but if you were to put him on the trade market people would be foaming at the mouth to pay up for him.
We have a Sabonis sighting! Sabonis and Kanter are both similar players who rebound with mid-teens scoring but don’t shoot treys or get defensive numbers. I do like Kanter at 100. Now that is a good value for him. Your bench is different: Fultz, read above. Jackson and Prince are different, but Prince has the chance to earn a starting job and Jackson, well, he’s the definition of boring. He’s kinda, maybe, possibly, who really knows, serviceable with theoretical upside, but boring.
Yeah agree with you, you’ll definitely need another big or two, some that get blocks preferably. As a whole, blocks, treys, and ft% are going to be lower. Your rebounds, fg%, and points will be strong and your team will get some steals. You’ll be equipped to fight for a playoff spot with your current roster, but I’d want to get another big man who can get defensive stats and tinker with the bench spots. With Giannis and Zion, you’re going to have a lot of fun “fantasy watching” (watching games with your players in them) this Year!
You most certainly did come away with a strong team. Dipo is risky, but you were able to get him as a borderline starter that kicks out a lot of risks. Your bench has some good value guys with Bertans going real late and Cody being free. He’s not exciting and has a limited skill set but he’s big with a starting job. Powell and Winslow were solid dart throws late as well.
Conley at 56 is great value and a full round after his ADP, and that’s in your 16 team league. I don’t understand how Kemba fell to pick 41 as it makes no sense to me, but good for you man. That’s not a steal, that’s a full-on bank robbery. It’s honestly a game-changer to get a top 25 guy as a top 50 guy. He’s not an unknown commodity either or hoping he hits his upside, he’s an established three years running All-Star. I like the Bridges and carter picks and think they both fit right into your teams’ strengths and will outperform those ADP’s.
Hey, it’s not bad to be biased! You have confidence in your team and you should! Sometimes even if you’re wrong you can talk your league mates into thinking that your guys are great with confidence, advantageous stats, and some crafty sales tactics. Whatever works! But yes, I also think your team is strong in virtually everything (sans TO’s). If Dipo can make it back in a reasonable time, get healthy, and get up to speed with full minutes he’ll bump up your steals. If not, you’ll be a little below avg but okay enough. Very strong draft man, you’re in for a fun ride!
It looks different, but the end product developed nicely. I think you're missing someone having just 12 listed. Butler and Mitchell make a dynamic scoring guards duo and along with Towns put you among the tops in the points department. Your assists are going to be at the top as well with those guards along with Rubio, Conley, and Horford. Steals and treys will be a strength on this team. Ft% should be above average. Another big is needed to help out in blocks and rebounds and fg% which are on the lower end even with Towns. Nurk is a good stash, but that'll be a while until he can contribute. Turnovers are another cat you'll struggle in having so many guys who have the ball in their hands (that's a good thing). In all, you're very good in 5 categories with the other four needing help. It gives you little room for error, but you have the players to make it work, and with a few additions you can turn them into strengths.
Hahahah yeah, my queue got was gone before I got to my pick and some picks were made with 5 seconds left, actually wanted a big on the 3rd round but did not want to reach for JJJ and Clint Capela just got picked so I just went with Conley. Luckily, Lauri and Bryant were available. The only pick I regretted was maybe JV over Lonzo? I'm sure JV will have a good season and 76 was a good bargain for him but now, I dont have any shares of Ball who's gonna play in a super fast paced team. Really enjoyed their preseason.
That's what I'm actually afraid of, that my team is too balanced although I really do enjoy watching the guys I got this preseason. For Sato, it was actually him or Delon Wright. But the draft happened during his hamstring stuff and I got scared maybe and I saw some stuff regarding their guard rotations. I like Sato because maybe he gets to play 1-3 this season and he is efficient. Man, I love Fultz. I know his jumper is still a work in progress but I can already see he is looking to improve it and is also looking more confident while playing. Right now, I'm only worried about JV because of his foot issue and OG, he looked good during their games but still not polished so all in all, I would probably not make moves until the first week of the season.
Got my eyes on some players though like Thybulle, NAW, Norman Powell, Mo Wagner, and Kennard. Thank you so much for the analysis, Santino! Hope you have a great szn!
Hey man how’s it going? I really enjoy the little tidbits about each pick. Very detailed all around and gave me so much information. This is awesome, I’ll try to match with quick tidbits:
I’m against the standard I guess, I can’t pass on Bron for Lillard there. Booker is a two-guard who played the point a lot last year out of necessity, but now they brought in Rubio to solidify the position for once. His assists are going to take a dip but he’s one of the best scorers in the game and Rubio’s vision and IQ is going to make it look that much easier for him. I mentioned earlier tonight that porzingis is a stud, but in an ideal world near 40 would be perfect. A lot of variables with him but his talent is top 20 no question.
Conley and Lowry went right where they’ve been going and give you four top guards. Both good picks and now you’re insanely elite in that area. There’s absolutely no way Whiteside would last another two rounds. He went right where he should be; even at 23 mpg he was top 10 in rebounds and blocks with a great fg%, now on a team that wants him and could play him 30 minutes. Gallo was a nice pick. Whenever he’s healthy he produces. He’ll get the CP3 bonus for a little bit at least also.
Ingram went too high for me, not someone I typically look at with all the options on the team. The offense does give him some upside tho. Sexton looks better as a bench player but another guy who can score and could be good if he takes the sophomore leap. Didn’t need to go pg specific just for the position though. Collins was a needed pick as you only had two bigs at this point. Culver has upside and should see time at a few positions. Nurk is a good pick with 2 IR’s, I mean you might as well at this point right? And have one to spare. Bamba needs court time and he’ll help shore them up.
I agree with your strengths you’ll be strong in the four you mentioned and steals. Elite in assists. Whiteside doesn’t shott enough ft’s to crush your guards’ numbers (unless that changes). You don’t have much blocks outside the two, but they can both be among the leaders so it’ll be interesting. Getting one more guy who can pitch in would be big a boost. Rebounds, turnovers and fg% aren’t going to be good, and you’ll be among the worst. That’s just how it goes with a guard-heavy team. In all though, you have the advantage in 5 of the 9 cats and blocks could get into swing territory with another guy. Your draft turned out well, but you’ll need to take those cats each week to continue to churn out wins. You have the ability to do so.

Just picked up Jarrett Culver off waivers, figured I needed a bit of a scoring boost due to my bigs not being particularly high scorers. CP3 obviously a risk in H2H but thought that the fifth round was an okay place to take him in the hope that he can play 65+ games. Any input/feedback is appreciated!
