High profile prospects like Corbin Carroll, Ezequiel Tovar, and Gunnar Henderson made their MLB debuts last season and project to start for their teams on Opening Day in 2023. This is the next class of prospects that will make their MLB debut this year and make the Opening Day roster in 2024, so it’s very important for fantasy managers to become familiar with these names.
OF Oscar Colas, Chicago White Sox
One of the hottest prospects in the minor leagues, Oscar Colas is a 24-year-old Cuban center fielder in the White Sox organization. He sky-rocketed up the minors and ended his 2022 season in AAA. His slash line across the three levels of the minors shows big league hitter potential: .314/.371/.525 with 23 HR. With Jose Abreu gone to the Astros, Andrew Vaughn will go from RF to 1B. Even if Gavin Sheets starts the season at RF, every projection system has Oscar Colas making over 300 PA and the majority have him over 400 PA. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol has talked up Colas over the offseason and told reporters Colas will be given every opportunity to win the RF job. The word is out on Colas with sharp drafters so it’s very important for you to get to know him for his future potential.
OF Colton Cowser, Baltimore Orioles
Orioles GM Mike Elias said Colton Cowser will make his MLB debut this season. As the No. 1 rated hitter in college baseball at Sam Houston State, Cowser was the 5th overall pick in the 2021 draft. He flew (pun intended) through the O’s minor leagues with a .982 OPS and 94 walks. Along with an advanced approach at the plate, he has plus power potential. He raked at all levels and finished the season in AAA.
