How’d We Get Here?
The Spurs lost a ton of games last season but got confirmation that Victor Wembanyama is indeed a generational talent. They also learned that Jeremy Sochan can handle the ball but isn’t a true point guard, that Keldon Johnson could be moved to the bench without major disruption to the operation, and that a couple steady hands to help shepherd a young team would most certainly help. The Spurs made some notable additions this summer without losing anything important off the roster, and while neither Chris Paul nor Harrison Barnes will be on the team the next time San Antonio is a title contender, they’re going to provide some valuable insight, mentorship and on-court production in the short term. The Spurs were also able to add dynamic guard Stephon Castle at the top of the draft and with Wembanyama leading the charge, it might not be long before this team is back mucking it up in the standings with the rest of the West.
