It’s Memorial Day, and week eight of fantasy baseball day; to commemorate both equally momentous occasions, we’ve got four quick-fire waiver wire adds to kick off your week, featuring a trio of pitchers who are just starting to flash some serious fantasy value, and one who could be returning from injury this week.
Griffin Jax – SP/RP – Rays – 29% Rostered
Jax left Minnesota as one of the major blue chip departures from the 2025 deadline fire sale, but struggled in high leverage relief for the raise, posting an ERA over six in August. A more flexible role benefited him in September, and Tampa Bay decided to utilize him as an opener early in 2026. A couple of injuries to the rotation led to a gradual stretching out, to the point where Jax is now part of the rotation, and producing legitimate and productive starts.
His last two turns in the rotation both produced five quality innings, and with his pitch count building, he should be ready to take on the role full-time. It’s not reasonable to expect the same gaudy swing and miss numbers as a starter, but he still boasts exceptional breaking stuff and a respectable fastball as well, which should combine to make him a well above average starter worth rostering in 10 team leagues at least.
Christian Scott – SP – Mets – 16% Rostered
Christian Scott won’t be the first injury-laden starter in this article, and he already hasn’t been the first to build up as a starter during the season. His start of 5.2 scoreless innings yesterday against the Marlins marked his longest effort of the year by both pitches and innings, and his results have begun to mirror what many expected when he was one of the top pitching prospects in the sport in 2024 (pre TJS).
With his fastball velocity up over a mile per hour from his pre-injury levels, it’s fairly clear the ceiling is still there, especially with a now expanded pitch repertoire that more effectively sets up his sweeper as a put away pitch, and keeps lefties honest with a cutter. He’s not yet harnessed his pre-injury level of control, but that can come with time, making the full package worthwhile in 10 team leagues , with the potential to be a must add everywhere if he progresses well.
