A trio of fantasy friendly pitchers can cover your roster needs in just about any format, ranging from a two-start pitcher this week, to a two-start pitcher next week, to a bulk reliever (owned in less than 1% of leagues) posting premium ratios. A star upside outfielder is a nice piece of icing on the cake too…
Will Dion – SP/RP – Nationals – 0% Rostered
If you play in a league with strict start limits, thus making waiver wire starting pitchers less attractive, Will Dion is your man, available almost anywhere. Acquired in the Foster Griffin trade at the deadline, the Nationals have replaced Griffin’s spot in the rotation by piggybacking Brad Lord and Dion, with the latter serving as the bulk reliever. His numbers in those appearances have been great, not allowing a run over five appearances, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out 13.
The Nationals roster circumstances make it likely that Dion will be used as a bulk reliever at least twice more, making him a premium streaming option for any league with a start limit, and if he keeps pitching this effectively, he’ll surely still play a prominent role upon the return of DJ Herz from injury. As is generally the case with bulk relievers, they either pitch well enough to earn a starting role or poorly enough to lose their job entirely; in the case of Dion, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Gage Jump – SP – Athletics – 13% Rostered
