Working the Waiver Wire: August 9

  • It is August so the 2026 season is in its final two months. That means we need to shift our focus from players who might improve and eventually help our teams down the road to players who are currently playing at a high level.  Today, I bring you four such hitters who could easily help your teams right away.

    Andruw Monasterio – 1B/2B/3B/SS – Red Sox – 22%

I don’t blame you if you never heard of Andruw Monasterio. I’ll bet only hardcore Brewers and Red Sox fans were aware of him until recently.

By the end of June, Monasterio’s .217 batting average made him a non-factor in almost all fantasy formats. However, he gained attention in recent weeks by catching fire right along with seemingly the entire Red Sox lineup. That team is scorching hot!

Since July 1, Monasterio has hit .352 with 11 doubles, three homers, 14 runs and 17 RBI in 25 games. Now that’s gettin’ it done!

The Red Sox keep bouncing him around the bottom half of their batting order, but with production that good, who cares? Claim Monasterio now as a way to grab a piece of the red-hot Red Sox. His hot streak may not last long (after all, he is a career .256 hitter) but that’s not too important this late in the season. You need results right now and that’s exactly what Monasterio provides along with incredible position eligibility.

    Jung Hoo Lee – OF – Giants – 40%
