The Chiefs come into 2026 missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, are coming into a season with plenty more questions than answers about their offense. Mahomes is coming off of knee surgery after sustaining a torn ACL late last season. The tea leaves are certainly trending towards him being ready for Week 1 though as the league has scheduled the Chiefs’ first two games in primetime. Travis Kelce returns for another season but is another year older, the biggest questions surround the wide receiver position. Rashee Rice will be the top wide receiver for the Chiefs but now is coming off another knee procedure and another off the field issue. The knee issue shouldn’t preclude him from being off the field but the off field issue could as he has already been suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Xavier Worthy was fourth on the team with 73 targets in his rookie year but only caught 42 of them. He’s also coming off major shoulder surgery but should be ready for training camp. Rice will come in as a low end WR1 while Worthy will be a low end WR2. Gone is Hollywood Brown, vacating 73 targets from 2025, where Tyquan Thornton could slide in or can Jalen Royals be a breakout candidate? Travis Kelce returns and he led the team with 108 targets, hauling in 76 for 850 yards and five touchdowns in a very respectable year. He should again be a very solid to high end TE2. The one are where there will be no doubts is the running game. Kenneth Walker III comes over from the Seahawks and he will be the guy in the Chiefs backfield, tasked with taking some of the load off Mahomes and trying to go more towards a more balanced run-pass split. Walker is a high end RB2 with RB1 potential.
