Weather Impacts on Your Fantasy Players (Friday, August 15 to Thursday, August 21)

  • It is another good weekend for hitting as we’ll have normal summertime heat and humidity at most ballparks. One exception, naturally, is San Francisco as temperatures there will only be 60-65 degrees this weekend (Summer? What summer??). The weather should be decent for hitters again early next week although the heat will start to back off a little by mid-week.

The longer range forecast is showing signs that the weather will be noticeably cooler about a week from now (next Friday, August 22) across the Great Lakes and Northeast. Places like Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York and Boston may be cooler than average by late next week and that could continue for several days. It might seem like the dog days of summer in some places today but September’s cooler weather and weaker hitting environments are not too far away.

    TARGETS:

    This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments

    • NY Yankees at St. Louis (Friday-Sunday; temperatures 92-95 degrees and very humid for all three games)
    • Milwaukee at Cincinnati (Friday-Sunday; near 90 degrees with high humidity for the entire series at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park)
    • Chicago White Sox at Kansas City (Friday-Sunday; 92 degrees and humid for the whole series)
    • Arizona at Colorado (Friday-Sunday; Summer. Temps above 80. Coors Field. Yes, please!)
    • LA Angels at A’s (Friday only; temps around 92 degrees for this game… but 10-15 degrees cooler Saturday & Sunday)

    Targets for Early Next Week:

    • Texas at Kansas City (Monday-Thursday; temps near 90 degrees on Monday falling to 84 Wednesday & Thursday but still some of next week’s hottest games)
    • LA Dodgers at Colorado (Monday-Thursday; summer weather continues at Coors for the second series of this homestand as temps will be 85-90 degrees for each game)

Those are the best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:
