Working the Waiver Wire: July 9

  • The fourth of July feels like a turning point in the fantasy baseball season every year. Managers begin to lose focus or stop caring all together. Maybe its due to the fact that their team isn’t going to make it to the playoffs, maybe its because they’re shifting their focus from baseball to prepping for their fantasy football draft, or maybe the All-Star break disrupts their routine and subsequently causes them to lose focus. Whatever it is, don’t be that guy. Stay active, stay involved, and keep reading our “working the waiver wire” articles to ensure that you have a strong finish to your fantasy season! Below I’ve highlighted some guys I think can fill up the stat sheets for you and I’ve ended the article with a quick mention of several guys that are worth stashing if you’ve got the IL spots to burn, so make sure you read to the end!

    A.J. Ewing – 2B/OF – Mets – 22% Rostered

Ewing has been solid since getting the call in May, but he has been especially good over his last 20 games. He’s hitting over .300 in that span, with a .925 OPS, 10 runs and 14 RBI. His recent production has lead to the Mets’ slotting him into the leadoff spot (in front of Juan Soto) in three of his last four starts, leading me to believe we’re in store for even better counting stats moving forward. Unfortunately he hasn’t been super successful stealing bases (66% success rate) thus far, but he’s got a 96th percentile sprint speed and has shown the intent to steal which means he’s got what it takes to be a meaningful contributor in that category for your fantasy team. He’s a must roster player in five-outfielder leagues and if he continues to play the way he has over the last 30 days or so, he’s a must roster in 3-outfielder leagues as well.

    Ryan Jeffers – C – Twins – 29% Rostered
