We’ve reached that point in the season where we’ve run out of the top prospect call ups, emerging Triple-A arms, and/or the post-hype breakouts that make up a majority of the exciting pickups early on in the season. The proverbial “upside-well” has run pretty dry in most leagues at this point in the season, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to fill those gaps in your roster for the midsummer stretch. Read on for some guys I think can help you finish this fantasy season strong!
Dominic Canzone – OF – Mariners – 16% Rostered
Honestly, I just want to tell you to look at this guy’s savant page and drool over all the cherry red lollipops that decorate it. Alas, I will provide more analysis, most importantly that he has until recently been limited to a strong-side platoon role. Canzone has started four of the last five matchups when the Mariners have faced a lefty starter, and albeit a small sample size (21 ABs) he has a .952 OPS verse southpaws on the year.
Given how hard he impacts the ball and the rate at which outfielders are getting hurt, Canzone is an attractive add. Hopefully he is leaving the platoon role behind him and will be a stalwart in the Mariners’ lineup moving forward. If not, he can still be of significant value in leagues with daily lineup settings. He’s posted a 153 wRC+ on the year and his expected stats back it up. Add him now, before it’s too late!
Garret Whitlock – RP – Red Sox – 17% Rostered
