As we get deeper into the fantasy season, roles start to solidify.
We see less closer-by-committee situations, starting rotations become more defined and starting roles are more clear.
That means, when we search the waiver wire for available options, when we find players who can provide value that have defined roles, we need to pick them up, especially if they can fulfill a need for our fantasy teams.
I’d like to think my list today can help to fill some of those needs. Be it some outfield power, saves or a bit of corner infield help, we’ve got someone for everyone.
*Note that all listed roster %’s are from Yahoo, at the time of the writing of this article. Almost all of our waiver wire recommendations are widely available across all major platforms, however.*
Mickey Moniak – OF – COL – 23%
Moniak missed the first week of the season after spraining his right ring finger when he was diving back to first on a pick-off play in a spring training game. He made his season debut on April 3 and has hit five home runs with a .243 average and a .912 OPS.
Last season he finished the year as the 36th most valuable fantasy outfielder, with just 461 plate appearances. His season was carried by three very hot months (and he was very below average the other three months) and he is a strong-side platoon bat (he was the 48th most productive left-handed bat vs RHP in 2025), but he can be a very valuable season-long producer.
Including this season, he has had a barrel rate of 12.6% or higher in three of the past four seasons (15.4% this season), a fly ball rate 43.9% or higher in five straight season (61.5% this season) and he currently boasts his best contact (77.8%), zone contact (94.2%) and swinging strike (13.2%) rates.
Calling Coors home can give hitters a boost and even make their floor a little bit “safe”, but even as just a strong-side platoon producer, the projection systems have Moniak basically reproducing his 2025 season, at a minimum. And that was a top-36 season.
And he’s available in 77% of Yahoo leagues? That has to be rectified.
Seranthony Dominguez – RP – CHW – 44%
Dominguez is pretty much locked in as the White Sox closer.
That may not mean much, since they will have one of the worst records in the league and have one of the lowest save opportunities in the league BUT they did have 49 save opportunities in 2025 and 25 total saves as a team (so, yeah, that means that had 24 blown saves, yikes).
Is he the best option? Maybe not. Is he the only option in the bullpen with big league closing experience? No, but Jordan Hicks has basically broken all trust that he can close out games.
So the ball is figuratively and literally in Dominguez’s court. Will he strike out a bunch of batter’s? Yes. Will he walk a bunch of guys, allow home runs and have plenty of adventurous outings? Absolutely. Will his job be in danger any time soon? Probably not. The White Sox ownership and management groups know they are a young team that is going to lose a lot of games, so if he struggles and blows a few games, they won’t worry about it much.
In fact, they have to hope he closes out games well for another six to eight weeks to build up his trade value, so they can flip him at the end of June or beginning of July for a prospect that can help them more in the future than Dominguez can help them now…which is the only thing fantasy managers really have to be leery about with Dominguez long term (other than his impact on their ERA and WHIP).
This was a long, winding way of saying, we scoop up relievers who are locked into closer roles, especially if we a) need saves or b) are in deeper leagues where every save matters.
