The Philadelphia Eagles could not have scripted a better season if they tried. They won their second Super Bowl in franchise history in dominant fashion over the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The birds looked the part all season long as they sported a 14-3 record, had the number one overall defense in the league, and had a top-10 offense bolstered by their NFL Offensive Player of the Year, 2,000-yard rusher Saquon Barkley. There were very few bumps in their road to victory outside of a 2-2 start to the season. After the bye week in Week 5, they won 12 of their 13 remaining games and secured the second seed in the NFC.
In the playoffs, the team broke quite a few records. They scored the most points in a single playoff run in NFL history, bolstered by the blowout wins over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. These two performances set the record for most combined points in a conference championship game and Super Bowl. Barkley became the NFL’s single-season rushing yards leader, playoffs included, with a total of 2,504 yards. Kicker Jake Elliott became the most accurate kicker in Super Bowl history, making all nine of his kicks across three appearances in the big game. Despite not breaking the Super Bowl team sack record, they recorded the second-most sacks in Super Bowl history with six, but did so without sending a single blitz.
In the aftermath of this historic season, the team lost several key pieces, the standard for any Super Bowl champion. Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore accepted the Saints head coaching job and key defensive players Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Josh Sweat, and Milton Williams all sought greener pastures. Team legend and captain Brandon Graham retired after spending his entire 15-year career in Philadelphia. Defensively, this squad will look a bit different and even younger than they already were. Offensively, nothing should change for this extremely talented offense.
