Weather Impacts on Your Fantasy Players (Friday, August 29 to Thursday, September 4)

  • Dumb and dumber? No, try cool and cooler. The air is noticeably cool in most areas this weekend and many games will be played with temperatures only in the 70s. Some areas won’t be quite as cool for a day or two early next week but then another large cold front will bring even cooler air to the northern and eastern U.S. by the middle of next week. Next weekend (Sept 5-7) could be the coldest weekend since the spring and some games might be played in the 50s!

Heat and humidity aren’t great for fans in the stands but we love that kind of weather for our hitters. Unfortunately, summer’s peak heat and humidity appear to be a thing of the past. We can still find games to target or avoid based on relative temps but it is clear that homers and scoring will trend downward, at least in the short term but possibly for the rest of the season. I know… sad!

    TARGETS:

    This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments

    • Texas at A’s (Friday-Sunday; temperatures near 90 in MLB’s hottest games of the next seven days)
    • Detroit at Kansas City (Friday-Sunday; temps near 81 for all three games)
    • Arizona at LA Dodgers (Friday-Sunday; clear and 80 degrees for each game)
    • Chicago Cubs at Colorado (Friday-Sunday; temps near 75 degrees plus/minus a few at hitter-friendly Coors)

    Targets for Early Next Week:

    • Seattle at Tampa Bay (Monday-Wednesday; it is still favorably warm and humid in Florida but watch out for scattered thunderstorms)
    • San Francisco at Colorado (Friday-Sunday; 75-80 degrees at Coors – yay!)

Those are the best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:
