Do your teams need help in batting average? Could you use some multi-position eligibility? How about a starting pitcher who is on a roll and has a favorable short-term schedule, or maybe a reliever who could morph into his team’s closer role by the trade deadline? If so, check out my recommendations below to help your teams!

Tommy Edman – 2B/3B/OF – Dodgers – 29%

Claiming Tommy Edman off your wire is probably your only option for ‘investing’ in the strong Dodgers lineup as everyone else is probably already rostered. Even better is the fact that he is hot right now and appears to finally be healthy.

We don’t need to rehash how injury-prone Edman has been (this is his third straight year in which he’ll fail to play in 100 games). Instead, look at it this way: he is healthy right now and we only need him to stay healthy for about two more months.

Health may be iffy but Edman’s performance is not. He has been outstanding ever since finally making his season debut in mid-June. Edman slashed .360/.439/.535 in 28 games with two homers, 16 runs scored, 17 RBI and two stolen bases. Yes, his stats are undoubtedly inflated by a remarkable .439 BABIP. However, Edman has shown early improvements in his exit velocities, barrel rate and hard-hit rate (the latter two are at career highs). Also, his expected batting average and expected slugging percentage are still a very good .330 and .467, respectively.

The Dodgers might not push Edman hard due to his injury history so he will probably sit a bit more often than most starters. However, if you want someone who has been a Top 30 player over the past month who happens to be eligible at three positions, check your wire for Tommy Edman.
