MLB DFS Delivery for Friday, May 19th

  • We have a big Friday on the board, with a highly anticipated return in store. The 2017 AL MVP, Jose Altuve, will be back tonight ahead of schedule. The Astros have desperately missed him, even though Mauricio Dubon has been okay in his stead. Dubon hasn’t homered on the season and has only eight RBIs in 37 games. Altuve instantly elevates this Astros lineup, and that should help paper over some of the injuries they’re experiencing in their rotation.

In Atlanta, an unexpected pitcher’s duel could be taking place between the young Seattle Mariners stud, Bryce Miller, and the Atlanta Braves ERA leader, Bryce Elder. Can Miller continue to impress against maybe the best lineup in the league? He’s only given up one run in three starts (19 IP) so far.

This is for the 5/19 4:05 PM PST slate on DraftKings. As always, make sure to check lineups before first pitch.

    Thrive Fantasy Picks

Bryce Harper over 0.5 Total Hits

Pete Alonso over 0.5 Total Runs + RBIs

Ozzie Albies under 1.5 Total Hits + Runs + RBIs

Mookie Betts over 0.5 Total Runs

    Writer’s record

    13-13-1

Zac Gallen over 6.5 Strikeouts (-129)

This Pirates team is a far cry from the emerging upstarts they looked to be in the early part of the season. In May, they had the lowest runs scored in the majors with only 28. The Guardians are a distant second worst with 42. The Pirates also rank in the bottom five in strikeouts in the month.

Baltimore Orioles ML @ Toronto Blue Jays (+134)

Yusei Kikuchi takes the mound for the Blue Jays. He is fortunate to have not recorded a loss on his record thus far. He gave up three home runs in his last start against the Braves. Kikuchi has given up close to six hits per game on average. This Orioles lineup can punish the ball and I like them at plus money.

    DFS Pillar Plays

    Blake Snell

    Position: P

    Salary: $8,500

Blake Snell has been a little bit better at home than on the road this year. He’s gone six innings or more in his last three starts. His strikeouts are down and his walk rate is up, but those stats should settle closer to his career averages. Snell, with all his early troubles, is still 89th percentile in whiff rate. He’s given up more than two runs in only one of his last five starts. Snellzilla will at least give you length and is moderately priced.

    Luis Robert Jr.

    Position: OF

    Salary: $4,000

I’m surprised Luis Robert is listed this cheaply. He might be the hottest hitter in the league right now. In May, Robert has seven home runs,15 RBIs and an OPS of 1.321. Four of those seven home runs have come in the last week. The Royals come to the south side, with 39-year-old Zack Greinke taking the mound.

    Corey Seager

    Position: SS

    Salary: $4,800

Seager finally returned last night after being out for over a month. This will be his first game at Globe Life Field since April 11. He is the all-time leading home run-getter at that stadium and he’ll be taking on his old NL West foe, the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies will probably be starting Karl Kaufmann, who will be making his MLB debut. That should set up a comfortable homecoming for Corey Seager.

    Mookie Betts

    Position: 2B/OF

    Salary: $5,600

Mookie Betts is averaging 11 FPPG over his last seven games with all of those games being seven or more points, except for one. He was taken out of the game before the fifth inning last night, so he missed out on the semi-comeback the Dodgers staged before the Cardinals blew the game open again. We haven’t heard from Dave Roberts why Mookie was pulled, but it seems like a tactical maneuver that backfired. The former MVP should be good to go and ranks ninth this year in doubles, 16th in runs scored and 26th in home runs. He’s having another elite season and is as reliable as they come.

    DFS Value Plays (<$3200 Salary)

    Shea Langeliers

    Position: C

    Salary: $3,200

The young Brandon Bielak will take the mound for the Houston Astros. He hasn’t gotten past the fifth inning in any of his past three starts. Langeliers has provided decent power with seven home runs on the season. Langeliers is only 25 and all seven of his home runs have come against right-handed pitchers, of which Bielak is one.

    Jake Burger

    Position: 3B

    Salary: $2,800

Burger can be a cheap option for a White Sox stack if you anticipate them getting to Zack Greinke. He’s got ten home runs on the year in only 83 at-bats. He’s got big power and has eight hits in his last four games. Burger has faced Greinke before, when he went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.

    Robbie Grossman

    Position: OF

    Salary: $2,400

Robbie Grossman continues to cover Left Field in Travis Jankowski’s absence. He’s moved down the lineup, but is still an everyday starter. The matchup against the Rockies’ rookie favors this Texas team and Grossman has reached base safely in seven out of the last eight games.
