Welcome to my 2024 December dynasty rankings! We have roughly a month and a half worth of games in the books, which gives us a large enough sample size for a dynasty update! We have a decent idea of how rotations will play out, which rookies are flashing early, and which players have taken a leap (or are playing worse).
Once again, tiers are a loose guideline. Players within a tier are somewhat close together in my eyes, with factors such as fantasy team state (contending or rebuilding), stat preference, upside, and aging playing a role in stratifying players. Don’t sweat over the actual ranking too much – the general range in which players fall is much more important than the specific ranking. In this version. I’ve also included rank changes to log trends.
Generally, I will shift players to a greater degree based on new skill sets or talents presenting themselves, rather than trusting the shooting splits this early into the season. Someone like Donte DiVincenzo won’t be too hurt by his cold spell early on, while RJ Barrett sees a massive rise with his greater assists.
I’ve noted the 21 players that have fallen from the Top-350 below, with their previous rank in parentheses. The new 21 players that have entered the Top-350 are also below, with their respective rank. Note that for formatting reasons, the new players and rookies entering the Top-350 have their ranks as “0” in the full rankings.

Mark C’s FREE Dynasty Category Rankings – December 2024
Rank Player Rank Change Age Team Notes 1 Victor Wembanyama 0 20.9 San Antonio Wemby has solidifed himself at the top. If there's already a question if he's the number one pick in redraft, he's the no-doubt top dog in dynasty formats. The self-creation is the only flaw in his game. 2 Luka Doncic 0 25.8 Dallas The top isolation player in the game. We'll have to see if his FT% improvement lasts, but that is enough to just nudge him over others in this range. No worries over his early-season FG% slump. 3 Nikola Jokic 0 29.8 Denver Jokic is being pressed to somehow do even more for the Nuggets, and fantasy managers are being reminded of his dominance. 4 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 0 26.4 Oklahoma City Insane scoring paired with elite steals and FT%. He's only lower because I value the assists as a greater categoryof importance compared to the steals and FT% SGA can provide. 5 Jayson Tatum 1 26.7 Boston Tatum has upped his scoring to previous highs while marginally increasing his assists. It's enough to move him up slightly. 6 LaMelo Ball 5 23.3 Charlotte Ball is firing like deep from crazy while maintaining his FG%. When paired with an insane usage rate and acceptable efficiency, his scoring levels at are new heights. Hopefully this latest injury isn't anything too serious. 7 Tyrese Haliburton -2 24.8 Indiana I'm officially concerned about the scoring and usage. Maybe it's all just due to a lingering back issue. If it is lasting this long however, questions have to arise over his long-term value. 8 Anthony Edwards -1 23.3 Minnesota Edwards needs to translate his playmaking from the playoffs to the regular season to jump up a tier. He has made modest improvements, but he's still not super efficient nor a playmaking hub. This ranking reflects more positively on his youth rather than his per-game upside. 9 Chet Holmgren -1 22.6 Oklahoma City Holmgren was showing further signs of growth before suffering the hip injury. Little reason to think he comes back worse. 10 Jalen Williams 9 23.6 Oklahoma City Williams' time is now! Making strides across the board while carrying a higher usage and similar efficiency is no easy task. Williams may not have any one standout category, but the full gamut of contributions is signficant. 11 Trae Young 1 26.2 Atlanta With the Hawks moving on from DeJounte Murray, Trae Young looks primed to be the main offensive engine in Atlanta. He has fantasy warts with his FG%, poor boards, and poor blocks. His strengths in assists, FT%, points, and threes more than make up for it. 12 Giannis Antetokounmpo 3 30.0 Milwaukee There's not much else you could ask for from Giannis currently. Sure, his stat set is slanted. His category strengths though are overwhelming. 13 Scottie Barnes 1 23.3 Toronto Some of Scottie's percentages still leave me wary of his scoring output (midrange and three-point numbers specifically). But Scottie has earned more usage and looks more comfortable getting to his spots. Tack on improved steal and block rates, and the fantasy breakout is here. 14 Donovan Mitchell -5 28.2 Cleveland I got a little ahead of myself on Mitchell. Still a great scoring guard, but not enough in steals nor assists to augment his strengths. 15 Devin Booker -2 28.1 Phoenix Booker has been tasked with greater playmaking usage, and he has responded admirably. Should led Phoenix to entrust Booker with this role going forward. The short-term arrival of Tyus Jones impacts this somewhat though. 16 Anthony Davis 2 31.7 LA Lakers I get the injury concerns, but AD is such a solid producer except in triples. I'm willing to ride out his production as he heads out of his prime. 17 Alperen Sengun 0 22.4 Houston The Rockets doesn't fully run through Sengun yet, which is a oddity. The tools are there for the points and assists to be unlocked. We just have to be patient. The defenese has risen to new heights. 18 Cade Cunningham 4 23.2 Detroit If you take a deeper dive into it, Cunningham actually hasn't improved much from last season. He just has slightly more usage and minutes, with some better rebounding. That's enough though for this small bump, but the ceiling scenarios for Cunningham are less. 19 Karl-Anthony Towns 14 29.0 New York Towns is back to the height of his fantasy game. With elite boards and solid scoring across points, threes, and efficiency, Towns is a major influencer in more categories. 20 Tyrese Maxey -4 24.1 Philadelphia We're seeing the limitations of Maxey as the sole primary offensive engine driver. There is less "solo upside" with Maxey than we thought existed. 21 Evan Mobley 0 23.5 Cleveland Mobley had some good offensive flashes without Jarrett Allen. I'm not fully sold, but I'm hoping the Cavs tap into it a bit more next season. 22 Jaren Jackson Jr. 1 25.2 Memphis After a lost season, JJJ has picked up where he left off. He's back to the production levels we were used to with him. 23 Paolo Banchero 3 22.1 Orlando I wish Banchero was playing not only because of how well he was doing but also to see if the shooting improvement would fully stick. Let's see if it holds past the trade deadline. 24 Domantas Sabonis 3 28.6 Sacramento Sabonis's usage hasn't dropped too much with the addition of DeRozan. Add on some improved efficiency and a few more threes, and Sabonis is just fine. Want to get access to the rest of Mark’s dynasty rankings? You’ll need to have a FANTASYPASS membership.
