Shortstop is incredibly deep and incredibly young, with the potential for at least 12 2024 Opening Day starters to be 25 years old or younger, while there may only be 5 or 6 that will be over the age of 30. Lost in the Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuna and rookie craze of 2023 was Bobby Witt’s spectacular season, where he hit 30 home runs, stole 49 bases, raised his batting average 22 points from his rookie to sophomore seasons, and looked like a superstar. He’s joined in the top 10 by World Series Champion Corey Seager, sophomores Gunnar Henderson, Elly De La Cruz (EDLC) and Matt McLain, power/speed combos Francisco Lindor and Trea Turner, Bo “Don’t call me Dante” Bichette, a breakout from CJ Abrams and the precocious, soon-to-be starting SS for the Orioles, Jackson Holliday.
