Sports Ethos MLB Trade Deadline Fantasy Baseball Losers – Dynasty Edition

  • Now that the MLB trade deadline is over and the dust has settled, tens of players have moved from one team to another, while some never left home, with greener pastures just out of their reach.

We’ve gone over who the winners were after the trade deadline was over, so today we will be going over the losers. Remember, this is from a fantasy perspective, not an in-real-life perspective, so it doesn’t matter if a player joined a good team if the ballpark negatively affects their ability to hit home runs, it matters because the park can hurt their overall fantasy production.

Isaac Paredes – Yet another park-factor player, Paredes is now going from a home park where he was expected to hit 19 home runs, to one where he would have hit only 11. That’s a pretty stark drop! With his contract not up for another three seasons, Paredes also won’t be able to escape as a free agent to greener pastures at the nd of the year. Plus it’s always concerning when the Rays’ front office gives up on a player, no matter the reasoning.

George Klassen – Klassen has been one of the most exciting pop-up pitchers this season. Unfortunately, he’s now a member of the Angels organization and that’s often where exciting prospects go to die (figuratively). Their player development program has long been looked at with side-eye glances, eschewing the industry’s normal curves and promotion schedules by racing players through the minors, sometimes skipping multiple levels in an attempt to get them to the majors as soon as possible. Whether that strategy pays off in the long run is tough to say at this point, but I have little faith in LA’s ability to get the most out of anyone – and as such, Klassen’s dynasty value suffers.
