Pickups of the Day for June 18th

  • Once again Tuesday and Wednesday gives us a full schedule with every team playing, so plenty of short term adds, as well as season long considerations. This is always an important time in the fantasy season, with decisions to be made on players returning from the injured list and whether to cut underperforming players, or to take a chance on them returning to form. This week gives us a Coors Field gift of seven games, so lets try to capitalize. Let’s take a look at what is available.

    Charlie Blackmon – OF – COL – 17% Yahoo, 55% FanTrax

This is a bit of a blast from the past as Blackmon hasn’t been much of a fantasy contributor in a few years.  With outfield being a thin position this season, any short term help should be considered.  Colorado has six straight home games before a day off Monday.  Blackmon is leading off for the Rockies and didn’t start Monday so there is a good chance he plays all six games.  He comes in with a .266/.335/410 slash line on the season, however over the last month it jumps to .307/.378/.489.  He should be looked at in OBP leagues plus if you are in need of batting average and runs for this week of home games.  After Sunday, I would recommend looking to replace him.  If he plays five straight games, the Rockies may sit him on Sunday as Washington is scheduled to start left-handed Kyle Freeland, so perhaps drop Blackmon before that start.
