Now is not the time to thing long term. Now is the time to see who is hot and facing cold teams or play in a favorable environment. This waiver article focuses on names that may never be on your squad for longer than a week(end), but guess what? That’s how long the season is now.
P Ben Joyce (16%) – LAA
A three ER outing has inflated his ERA but Joyce, for the most part, has been an effective closer for the Angels. He has been inducing a ton of soft contact with a 31.0% hard hit rate allowed and 6.1% barrel rate allowed. His ERA is 3.38 and the FIP is 3.10. The control needs to improve but the Angels don’t face any playoff contending teams to finish off the year, meaning the Angels may provide him with more save chances than you may think.
Jonah Tong (14%) – NYM
Tong really turned his ugly minor league campaign around before getting the call up and is set to face off against a Phillies squad that is scuffling this weekend. The Phils have an 83 wRC+ in September and Tong has a 3.27 ERA with 13 Ks to just two walks in his two starts with the Mets since getting the call up. Add on a 0.91 WHIP, 2.73 FIP and 16.5% SwStr% and we have a great streaming option to cap off the week.
1B, 2B, OF Ryan Vilade (0%) – TBR
