Pickups of the Day for June 11th

  • Once again Tuesday and Wednesday gives us a full schedule with every team playing, so plenty of short term adds, as well as season long considerations. A few decent prospects have been called up recently and are worth consideration in deeper leagues. This is always an important time in the fantasy season, with decisions to be made on players returning from the injured list and whether to cut under performing players, or to take a chance on them returning to form. So let’s take a look at what is available.

    Drew Thorpe – SP – CWS – 18% Yahoo, 55% FanTrax

If you’re in desperate need of starting pitching, Thorpe may be an option as a short term streamer. He’s getting called up from Double-A to start Tuesday against Seattle, a team that has struggled at the plate all season. Against right-handed pitching Seattle has a 96 wRC+ which is nineteenth in MLB and a 27.9% K% which is the worst in baseball. There is inherent risk starting any White Sox pitcher this season however, Thorpe has dominated in his 60 innings at AA, with a 1.35 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and a 56:17 K:BB. He relies on his change-up to keep batters off balance and has a mediocre fastball, so may not be a great source of strikeouts, but has the potential to help in ratios.
