• Welcome (back) to our Free Agency Rundown series for 2026 NBA free agency, and a belated Happy Canada Day to everyone chilling in the north.

It was a quiet day on the ranch yesterday, with only two real impact moves of note: Anfernee Simons joining the Sixers and Tari Eason re-signing with Houston. The rest of the moves were all two-ways and minimums or near-minimums. It feels like a lot of teams are waiting for the next big domino to fall before another wave of complementary players gets signed to larger deals. LeBron James is fielding offers from pretty much the entire league while a handful of teams are still reeling from the Jaylen Brown trade and wondering if they could’ve gotten involved given the final cost. Expect more movement soon as rosters begin to take their final shape.

It’s an exciting time of year as all 30 teams are plotting their course for next season. Fans whose teams have been out of it for a long time are locked back in after the draft and every single squad will be making some moves to shake up the roster. It’s a fresh start for everyone in the league and a time when hope is renewed no matter where you finished last season.

Naturally, all that player movement is doubly exciting to fantasy basketball players, as each transaction creates fun new alignments while creating the potential for sleeper values all over the place.

It’s important to remember that no team is even close to being a finished product at this point. Moves get made that create depth chart imbalance, which requires more moves to be made. Things will continue to change and so will fantasy outlooks. Don’t expect the Blazers to enter the season with all those guards, for example — but if they do, get ready for some headaches. The rosters you see in the immediate aftermath of trades and signings are not necessarily what you’ll see on opening night.

The goal of this exercise is to give you running thoughts and live fantasy analysis of all the moves that get made. We’ll need to wait and see how rotations look and how coaches scheme around all their shiny new toys but you’ll be getting our first impressions of every transaction. Get excited — basketball is just around the corner again, already.

Neemias Queta agrees to four-year, $56 million extension with Celtics

The Celtics picked up their team option on Queta already but moved quickly to lock him in for another four years even after committing $47 million to Mitchell Robinson. The center depth chart looks pretty set now with Queta and Robinson making for a natural timeshare. Robinson is the better player but can’t be trusted to handle heavy minutes so we would anticipate that Queta starts and gets near the 25 minutes a night he logged last year. Queta’s fantasy value did slide after Boston added Nikola Vucevic at the deadline so there’s a little reason for wariness but the big financial commitment should give him a standard-league floor. Queta’s ADP shouldn’t be back-breaking either way and we’d consider him an easy late-round selection with middle-round upside.

Other moves with less fantasy implications: Javonte Green agrees to re-sign with Pistons for one year, $3.95 million; Sixers sign Rayan Rupert to two-way contract

    Yesterday’s Recap

Tari Eason to re-sign with Rockets on five-year, $81.5 million deal: Eason’s restricted free agency didn’t get a lot of shine in the rumor mill and he returns to Houston on a fairly long-term deal. His missed games have been problematic throughout his career but Eason is a fun defender who can rack up stats in a hurry. So far the Rockets have done more to add to their backcourt than shake up the forward mix so we wouldn’t expect any material change to Eason’s deployment so far. One change that needs to happen is improved efficiency, as Eason shot .416 from the field last year and was brutal for multiple months after peaking early. The extent of the collapse was shocking — so much so that you could make the argument that it won’t happen again. Eason figures to have a late-round ADP but his stat set gives him top-100 potential as long as he isn’t a total bricklayer.

Anfernee Simons will join Sixers on two-year, $12.3 million deal: Simons steps right into the sixth man role for the Sixers and should provide his typical floor-spacing and scoring. It’s not the most obvious fit in the world given the depth of offensive talent that Philly had to begin with — some more 3-and-D presence is needed — but the shooting will play. He’ll be looking to rebound a bit from an up-and-down season in which he ended up coming off the bench for the Celtics but it’s going to be a tough road for Simons to end up with 12-team value given Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe and Labaron Philon are all in the backcourt mix. Simons looks like a shaky 12-team pick but it would only take one injury to push him up the board, albeit temporarily.

Other moves with less fantasy implications: Kenrich Williams agrees to one-year, $5 million deal with Thunder; Kyle Anderson signs with Raptors for one year, $3.9 million; Pat Spencer agrees to two-way deal with Suns; Daeqwon Plowden agrees to two-year, $5.1 million deal with Kings; Tyus Jones to re-sign with Nuggets on one-year deal; Enrique Freeman to return to Wolves on two-way contract
