Nathan Baker and Larry Vannozzi team up for another group of sell high targets ahead of Monday’s trade deadline, featuring two pitchers and two hitters to cash out on ASAP before their value drops.
Ernie Clement
The disappointing year of the Toronto Blue Jays has led them to a trade deadline where selling is likely, and Clement figures to be one of the on the move pieces to return some value for future seasons. He’s not a certainty to be dealt with two more years of team control coming, but his name continues to be circulated as a probable trade candidate.
No American League player earned more all-star votes in 2026 than Clement, who’s enjoyed a solid season at the plate, but plenty of signs cast doubt into the sustainability of his current output, and mostly for fantasy purposes, his .294 batting average. The 40 point drop off to his .254 xBA is stark, but is also accompanied by bottom barrel exit velocity metrics, and an alarming 45% chase rate that is unsustainable for most successful hitters.
The combination of pitchers adjusting to Clement’s uber aggressive approach and natural regression to his peripherals should see a heavy fall off, which could be exacerbated by a move to a new team, where he’ll have to adjust to a new clubhouse, ballpark and role elsewhere. Either way, he’s currently a one category star, who isn’t likely to produce any serious value for the remainder of the season, so dealing him now makes total sense, especially with the added value of his positional versatility.
