How’d We Get Here?
The Warriors were out of sorts last season, with Klay Thompson struggling all year, Draymond Green getting suspended multiple times, Chris Paul never finding the right fit and Andrew Wiggins looking totally lost. If not for Steph Curry’s heroics, the Warriors would’ve had great draft lottery odds. The season picked up when Steve Kerr started giving minutes to the Warriors’ younger players, with Jonathan Kuminga and Trayce Jackson-Davis standing out. It helped convince the team to close the pocketbook on Klay Thompson this summer, and the Warriors fleshed out their depth by adding Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson. That’s solid depth but it does look like younger players are about to be empowered to take on more important roles. The sun is setting on the last version of the Warriors.
