We’ve officially entered prospect promotion season, and today’s list of waiver wire adds reflects that, with four of the five pickups from this week being recent call ups, including a pair rostered in under 5% of leagues.
Ryan Waldschmidt – OF – Diamondbacks – 15% Rostered
There’s nothing that quite beats a five tool outfielder for category fantasy scoring, and Ryan Waldschmidt has the potential to deliver that in a huge way, especially with the ample playing time he should receive over the coming weeks.
The D-Backs traded Alec Thomas to make room for Waldschmidt, leaving only the light hitting Jorge Barrosa as CF competition, essentially granting Waldschmidt the opportunity to play every day. It’s not just the speed and power that stands out- he’s got impressive plate discipline, lifts and pulls the ball well and can handle off speed pitches, all attributes you don’t often see with young sluggers. The potential here is enormous, with only the swing and miss lingering as a potential speed bump, making him a must add in 10 team leagues.
Peter Lambert – SP – Astros – 33% Rostered
No team in baseball has been ravaged by injury worse than the Astros, who are fighting to keep their pitching staff afloat, and by extension, their playoff hopes. Peter Lambert is the latest arm to be trusted with a spot in the rotation, and the early results have been very encouraging,
highlighted by a stellar seven inning effort against the Dodgers.He’ll have two favorable starts this week against the Mariners and Rangers, making him an ideal week long streamer, and if he performs, he could certainly be kept in deeper leagues as well. Add in the possibility of Him being utilized behind an opener, and he has even more utility in points leagues-in any league with the start limit, he is a must add.
