The Milwaukee Brewers enjoyed a monster season, both in real life and in fantasy, achieving a 97-65 record, clinching both the NL Central title and the best record in baseball. The club was incredibly balanced this year, boasting numerous viable fantasy players at the plate, as well as on the mound. And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, the Brew Crew also possessed a talent-laden farm system, with more than one young player rocketing up 2025 prospect lists. Both the present and the future are bright for the Brewers, a club poised to remain a team to target for prime fantasy production by managers for years to come.
Catcher
William Contreras had a bit of a down year, by his lofty standards, slashing .260/.355/.399 with 17 home runs, 89 runs scored, 76 RBI, six stolen bases, a .332 wOBA, .140 ISO, 113 wRC+ and 3.6 fWAR over 659 plate appearances. Not bad numbers at all, especially for a catcher, but this output was somewhat disappointing considering his monster 2024, which saw him post a .281/.365/.466 slash line with 23 home runs, 99 runs scored, 92 RBI, a .359 wOBA, .185 ISO, 132 wRC+ and 5.5 fWAR in 679 plate appearances. Despite the slight drop off in productivity, however, the 27-year-old still finished 2025 as the number four ranked backstop on the Fangraphs Fantasy Player Rater.
It was reported by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com in early May that Contreras had been playing through a fractured middle finger on his left hand–his catching hand–which reportedly had been bothering him “for some time” at that point, and it is my suspicion that the finger injury was largely responsible for this season’s drop in numbers. It appears to have affected the young catcher’s quality of contact, as his barrel rate went from 10% in 2024, to just 6.4% in 2025. Contreras did seem to regain his power stroke as the year went on, as I suspect the finger finally started to heal. Unfortunately, toward the end of the season, the star catcher dealt with additional injuries to his wrist and hand. Hopefully Contreras can get back to one-hundred percent over the off-season, and get himself back in the conversation for best fantasy catcher in the game next year.
First base
Rhys Hoskins was having a decent year, slashing .237/.332/.416 with 12 home runs, before a left thumb injury completely derailed his season. The veteran sprained the thumb in early June, and was not able to make his return from the injury until September, where he struggled.
In Hoskins’ absence, former top prospect Andrew Vaughn was traded to the Brewers from the White Sox in exchange for pitcher Aaron Civale and cash considerations in early July. Vaughn had been optioned to Triple-A by Chicago near the end of May after an abysmal start to the season that saw him slash a putrid .189/.218/.314 with just five homers in 193 plate appearances. The first baseman, who had been showing signs of life while at Triple-A, was called up by Milwaukee in early July and promptly proceeded to prove that taking a flier on him was a smart move, as the 27-year-old slashed a much-improved .308/.375/.493 with nine homers, 14 doubles, 46 RBI, a 142 wRC+ and a .186 ISO in his 254 plate appearances with the Brewers. The change of scenery appears to have been much needed for Vaughn. Let us hope he can build on his success next year.
Second base
Say hello to the number one second baseman in fantasy baseball. Brice Turang had a rock solid 2025, slashing .288/.359/.435/ with 18 home runs, 97 runs scored, 81 RBI, 24 steals and a 124 wRC+ in 659 plate appearances. The 25-year-old also put up some outstanding Statcast numbers, finishing within the 60th percentile in just about everything but strikeout rate (22.8%) and barrel rate (7.9%).
Second base is a pretty weak for fantasy, so being able to land the number one guy at that position could be a cheat code for managers, as there is no reason Turang cannot repeat as the top man at the keystone in 2026, as well.
