Ah, the fantasy basketball offseason. The time of year where you can relax, kick up your legs for a few months, and return to your stats and draft kits a few weeks before the season begins. Right? WRONG!
For us dynasty managers, this is peak team-building season! Your rookie drafts are most likely in the rearview mirror, and now you’re scouring the trade block trying to find the best deals that you can find. These are truly elite dynasty managers’ times to shine, where you can make that trades that can begin fueling your team to the top.
To aid you all in your journey, I have detailed below by 2025 Offseason Dynasty Buys and Sells. Last year, I went in-depth on on the Punt Intended pod on what buys and sells actually mean. For a quick summary, we are looking to trade for players who aren’t being discussed in the greater public as “buys” while simultaneously trading away players dynasty managers are not viewing as “sells.” You want to pounce on these targets (or trade them away!) before people realize what their actual value is for dynasty. That is how you can raise the talent of your squad without opposing managers even realizing it.
Below, I have identified five buys and six sells who I do not see as widely discussed as…well, buys and sells. Remember, just because I have a player listed as a “buy” does not mean I absolutely love them. It just means I think their value is higher than what it would cost to acquire them in a trade. Ditto for the sells; I don’t necessarily think they aren’t solid dynasty assets, but rather I believe you can garner more in trade for them than what their fantasy production will be for dynasty.
Dynasty Buys
Anfernee Simons
Currently Simons still resides on the Celtics. I am sure the Celtics would love to get out of the luxury tax via trading away Simons. As long as Simons is still on the team, I will analyze it assuming that remains the case.
It shouldn’t be a secret that the Celtics are taking a bit of a gap year. With that, someone on the team will have to bring the ball up, initiate offensive actions, and take shots on the team. Of course, Jaylen Brown should absorb some greater responsibilities. However, his five-year 35% supermax extension just kicked into effect, and his usage already sits near 29%. The Celtics are sure to take it easy with him. Derrick White is a great player but plays in more of a complementary role. Is Payton Pritchard really taking yet another step up? I can’t be sold on that.
Therefore, it is evident Simons has a clear opportunity to step into a higher-usage role. Moreso I haven’t even begun to discuss the Celtics’ offensive philosophy of launching threes aplenty. Last season, per NBA.com, Simons attempted 4.2 pull-up threes in 32.7 minutes a game and hit them at a 34.7% clip. That’s a rate of 7.79 minutes per pull-up attempt. Can we reasonably expect this to increase? Let’s use Jayson Tatum as an analog here. Tatum took 7.2 pull-up threes in 36.4 minutes a game and hit them at a 32.9% clip, good for a rate of 5.05 minutes per pull-up attempt. I’m not saying Simons will reach those same levels. At the same time, I will be shocked if Simons doesn’t set a new career-high in three-point attempts a game due to an increase in pull-up three-point volume, besting his 2022-23 season’s three-point attempts of 9.1 a game.
Ultimately, this is just a bet on opportunity. One key component of a player raising their stock is actually having the chance to increase their production. Simons has that fully; any additional efficiency gains on a better team will just compound the extra value. There is a chance Simons is merely a stopgap and his value dips down after the 2025-26 NBA season. I’m willing to bet teams recognize his offensive value, and Simons will remain in a solid role for dynasty managers to benefit from in the future.
