It’s the middle of summer but many areas will receive a break from the recent heat wave. In fact, quite a few areas will actually be cooler than average this weekend and early next week. Humidity will be lower, too, so things won’t be quite as easy for hitters in the next seven days. The good news is that less heat and humidity mean lower chances for those pesky summertime thunderstorms.
The MLB schedule brings us a lovely homestand at Coors. Summer temps at Coors – that’s about as good as it gets for hitters so stock up on Rockies as well as the visitors (Pirates and Blue Jays).
Notice that the list of games to target and avoid (below) is shorter than normal. That’s because those not-as-hot-and-humid conditions gives us fewer extreme temps. For example, most games early next week will be played in similar temps of upper 70s to lower 80s.
TARGETS:
This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments
- Pittsburgh at Colorado (Friday-Sunday; it’s Coors with temps in the 80s so load up your Pirates and Rockies!)
- LA Dodgers at Tampa Bay (Friday-Sunday; temperatures near 90 degrees each game with favorably high humidity but potentially some thunderstorms)
- Arizona at the A’s (Friday-Sunday; one of the three hottest series this weekend with temps 85-90 degrees each game)
Targets for Early Next Week:
- Toronto at Colorado (Monday-Wednesday; great temps at Coors as it should be near 91 degrees each game)
Those are the best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:
