Week 9 Injury Roundup

  • It was a lighter week for injuries around the NFL for once. However, despite the light quantity of injuries, there are injuries to extremely fantasy relevant players to pay attention to this week, including a pair of star wideouts who were set to go head to head this coming Sunday.

    Quarterback

Dak Prescott – Cowboys – Hamstring

Prescott suffered a hamstring injury in the second half of the Cowboys’ loss to the Falcons on Sunday. An MRI showed that the injury is significant enough where he is expected to miss multiple weeks and as of Tuesday morning, the Cowboys will be placing him on short term Injured Reserve meaning he will have to miss at least the next four games. The Cowboys will presumably start Cooper Rush in his place but for now, it would be smart to go with either someone on the waiver wire or you current backup quarterback.

Caleb Williams – Bears – Ankle

Williams tweaked his ankle late in the Bears’ Week 9 loss to the Cardinals. For now head coach Matt Eberflus has said he’s fine but it will be something to monitor throughout the week. Williams, if healthy is startable against the Patriots who have been a bit of a mixed bag against quarterbacks this year, but it wouldn’t hurt to have another option.

    Running Back

Isaiah Pacheco – Chiefs – Leg

Pacheco, who broke his leg in Week 2, is now expected to return to game action by the end of November. He will immediately get back to RB2 value with RB1 upside once he returns. Kareem Hunt will still be involved but he will take a backseat to Pacheco.

    Christian McCaffrey – 49ers – Achilles

McCaffrey returned to the practice field on Monday as the 49ers opened his 21 day activation window. It’s been widely speculated and hoped that he will play on Sunday when the 49ers travel to Tampa Bay and if that’s the case, activate him and start him as the 49ers get to take on a Buccaneers defense that is struggling to stop the run week after week. As for Jordan Mason, his fantasy value will take a massive hit with CMC’s return but as we said on our show last week, Mason is still a must roster in case of another injury to McCaffrey.

    Wide Receiver

CeeDee Lamb – Cowboys – Shoulder

Lamb sprained his AC joint in the Cowboys’ loss to the Falcons on Sunday. The injury is not considered serious and he has a chance to play on Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Eagles. This is obviously a situation to monitor throughout the week, if Lamb can go, he must be started, if not KaVontae Turpin will take his place but he will hold little to no fantasy value, it would be best to look on the waiver wire or your bench.

AJ Brown – Eagles – Knee

Brown left Sunday’s game due to a knee injury after taking a bad hit. An MRI showed that the injury was not serious and considered more of a contusion than anything. He has a chance to play in Sunday’s game against the Cowboys, but just like his counterpart on the other side in CeeDee Lamb, it is a situation to monitor throughout the Week. If he plays, he should be started, if not, Jahan Dotson could fill in as a flex play if needed, while DeVonta Smith’s value elevates to WR1.

Drake London – Falcons – Hip

London suffered a hip pointer in the Falcons’ Week 9 win over the Cowboys. He left the game but the injury is also not considered serious. It is unknown if London will be available for Week 10 as the Falcons take on the reeling Saints. If not, Ray Ray McCloud could be available for fantasy managers on the waiver wire and becomes a must add.

Keon Coleman – Bills – Wrist

Coleman suffered the injury at the end of the Bills’ Week 9 win over the Dolphins. Head Coach Sean McDermott has said he’s day to day and will be monitored throughout the week. If he can go in Week 10, He will hold Flex value with WR2 upside as the Bills travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts in a very favorable matchup.
