Week 12 had an uptick in injuries but also a number of positive updates of players coming off of their bye weeks. Let’s get into it here as we have all 32 teams back in action for Week 13, before another six teams take off in Week 14.
Brock Purdy – 49ers – Shoulder
As we reported earlier last week, Purdy was dealing with a shoulder issue. He underwent an MRI that came back clean but it was still enough of an injury to keep him out of the 49ers Week 12 matchup with the Packers. As for now we don’t know whether he will be able to play in Week 13 but it is something to monitor. If he can go, he will be a QB2 against the surging Bills.
Gardner Minshew – Raiders – Collarbone
Minshew broke his collarbone late in Sunday’s game against the Broncos. He will likely be done for the season and it is now Desmond Ridder time in Las Vegas. Ridder is only a start in case of emergency situation though as he will hold no fantasy value as the Raiders string out another frustrating season.
Trevor Lawrence – Jaguars – Shoulder
Fresh off the bye week, Lawrence returned to the practice field on Monday in hopes of being able to suit up for the Jaguars’ Week 13 home game with the Texans. While Lawrence has had a rough year, he had one of his better games of the season against the Texans earlier this season and could be useful if you’re in a pinch or you choose to stream quarterbacks.
Running Back
J.K. Dobbins – Chargers – Knee
Dobbins hurt his knee late in the first half in Monday night’s loss to the Ravens and never returned to the game, leaving his status for Sunday in question when the Chargers travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. ESPN reported he was seen with a heavy brace wrapped around the knee. If he can’t go, Gus Edwards and Hassan Haskins become priority adds off the waiver wire with Edwards being the higher of the two.
Austin Ekeler – Commanders – Concussion
Ekeler suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter on a kickoff in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. He is currently in concussion protocol and he will be monitored throughout the week. If he does end up clearing, he will still be no more than an RB2/Flex play when the Commanders host the Titans on Sunday.
David Montgomery – Lions – Shoulder
Montgomery left Sunday’s win over the Colts with a shoulder injury but on the bright side, he told reporters he could have returned to the game. The Lions held him out with the game in hand so it would be expected Montgomery should be able to play on Thursday when the Lions host the Bears, where he will be a must start.
Wide Receiver
Cedric Tillman – Browns – Concussion
Tillman suffered a concussion late in the third quarter in the Browns’ Thursday night win over the Steelers. While there’s been no real updates on his status yet, the Browns have an unusually long layoff between games as they don’t play again until Monday night. This should give Tillman ample time to clear the league’s concussion protocol. If he can go, he should be started as either a WR2 or Flex despite the fact he will likely see a lot of Patrick Surtain II.
Romeo Doubbs – Packers – Concussion
Doubbs suffered his head injury in the 3rd quarter against the 49ers Sunday going for a touchdown grab in the end zone. He left the game and did not return. Unlike Cedric Tillman and the Browns, the Packers are on a short week as they host the Dolphins Thursday night and it is likely that Doubbs will not play. Stash him on IR as Jayden Reed and Christian Watson should see more involvement in the passing game at least for this week.
Amari Cooper and Keon Coleman – Bills – Wrists
Both Cooper and Coleman have missed multiple weeks due to wrist injuries but both have now had the bye and the benefits of Bills wins to get healthy. Both should be back for Sunday night’s game against the 49ers where both will hold WR2/Flex value against a struggling 49ers defense.
Tight End
Ja’Tavion Sanders – Panthers – Neck
Sanders was carted off the field and taken to the hospital with a neck injury on Sunday. He has since been released and is undergoing further evaluation but his status for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers is in doubt. With the lack of depth at the tight end positon, go scour the waiver wire where the guy we’re about to talk about next may just be available.
Tyler Higbee – Rams – Knee
Tyler Higbee is expected to return to practice this week ahead of the Rams’ Week 13 showdown with the Saints. While he may not play, Higbee could be sneaky good add for the fantasy stretch run as he gives Matthew Stafford another weapon to work with.
Dalton Kincaid – Bills – Knee
Kincaid is back from the Bills bye week and he, just like Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper have a chance to return for Sunday night’s home contest with the 49ers. While Kincaid has not entirely lived up to his ADP this year, this could be a great matchup for him going against a 49ers defense that could be missing key players and give him a chance to feast.
