Sometimes the All-Star Break is falsely attributed to the middle of the season, likely because we see big changes occurring due to the post-trade deadline settling or a spark from players after they get a week of rest. The mid-season point would have occurred this past week though, as we head into Week 13 of the NBA season (Week 12 for those in Yahoo leagues).
The Jazz scouts must be pretty enamored by Cooper Flagg and company, because the blatancy of their tanking is clearly on display. John Collins has been out indefinitely for hip injury management without a word on a timeline. Walker Kessler has sat two games for rest in the past week. Collin Sexton also missed a game for rest. Lauri Markkanen’s back is acting up as well. If you have Jazz assets (aside from the streamers), try to move off them when you can. Players like Isaiah Collier, Brice Sensabaugh, Drew Eubanks, Svi Mykhailiuk and eventually (hopefully?), Kyle Filipowski should be on your streaming radars.
The Blazers are also getting in on the fun as Jerami Grant (finally upgraded to questionable for Saturday) seems to have mixed up his calendar, missing games in January instead of March for a face contusion which we haven’t gotten much explanation for besides him being “out” again and again. They aren’t as bad as the Jazz yet, but hey, maybe Scoot Henderson season is coming after a career-high 39 points this past week.
Rescheduling Notes
This likely doesn’t matter too much for the fantasy manager “on the ground” but we have the information so we will give it to you anyway.
Chicago at LA Clippers: The game has been moved from Tuesday, 1/21 to Monday, 1/20.
Washington at Utah: This game was moved from Thursday, 1/23 to Wednesday, 3/19.
Washington at LA Clippers: This game has been moved from Sunday, 3/16 to Thursday, 1/23.
Impact on Teams:LA Clippers: Originally, the Clippers had 3 games, now they have 4, which gives you additional streaming and player start opportunities.
Utah Jazz: The Jazz previously had 4 games, but now they only have 3, so you may need to adjust your expectations for their players’ fantasy value next week.
Monday (1/20): With 8 games scheduled, it’s a good day for fantasy managers to take advantage of the larger slate of games for streaming options and potential waiver wire pickups if you have the open lineup slots.
Tuesday (1/21): The games drop to 5, down from 6, which may limit the streaming choices but you’ll absolutely have open lineup slots for streaming.
