For Sunday Night Baseball, we get a matchup of blue bloods in Cards-Sox. This coming the day after Kenley Jansen gave up 3 runs in the 9th in a 4-3 loss. Elsewhere in the AL East, the Yankees stormed back from 6-0 down to win 9-8 vs. the Rays in what’s been another fun series between the two teams. Another storyline to look forward to is Max Scherzer possibly returning to the rotation today or tomorrow as he will seemingly tough out his neck/back issue. We also get what should be another tense matchup between the Padres and the Dodgers.
This is for the 5/14 1:07 PM PST slate on DraftKings. As always, make sure to check lineups before first pitch.
Writer’s record
11-11-1
Red Sox ML vs. St. Louis Cardinals (+102)
Corey Kluber has looked a little bit better as of late and the Red Sox lineup is no joke. I like them as underdogs at Fenway as they’ll be looking to bounce back after that tough loss.
Philadelphia Phillies @ Colorado Rockies u11 runs (-110)
Kyle Freeland has been really good this season and Aaron Nola has been okay, by his standards. They’ve actually played each other already this year. In Nola’s start, he went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs. In Freeland’s start, he gave up 4 runs in 6 innings. I know Coors will come into play, but the high total provides a lot of leeway.
DFS Pillar Plays
Logan Webb
Position: P
Salary: $10,200
Webb has been excellent lately and has made it into the 7th inning in his last 5 starts. He gives up hits, but has been able to work his way out of trouble. He’s gone 100+ pitches in 3 straight, so you know Gabe Kapler will let him work. That gives him a good chance at getting the decision.
Thairo Estrada
Position: 2B/SS
Salary: $5,800
Thairo Estrada hasn’t been as hot recently, but he’s the heart of the Giants’ offense and rookie Brandon Pfaadt takes the mound for the Dbacks. Pfaadt has struggled in his 2 starts, giving up 6 and 7 runs. Estrada has some pop and Pfaadt has already allowed 6 home runs.
Freddie Freeman
Position: 1B
Salary: $5,500
Freeman is one of the most consistent hitters in the league and he’s having a stellar May. He has registered a hit in all but one game in the month. He also has scored 12 runs with 11 RBIs, 7 doubles and 3 homers. If he keeps playing like this, he will be entering the MVP conversation (+2000).
DFS Value Plays (<$3000 Salary)
Casey Schmitt
Position: SS
Salary: $3,000
As mentioned above, Brandon Pfaadt has struggled with giving up too many homers. Casey Schmitt has shown he has big league power. He’s got 5 extra base hits in 4 games since being called up and he fits in at an affordable price for a Giants stack.
Leody Taveras/Robbie Grossman
Position: OF
Salary: $2,400/$2,700
The A’s bullpen struggles are well-documented and JP Sears, who’s been inconsistent, will be starting. Taveras is on a 5-game hit streak and has a .459 batting average in May with 7 RBIs. Grossman is hitting 2nd in the lineup, so he’ll have plenty of chances to produce some points on the cheap.
