With the dog days of summer in full swing, catchers are starting to wear down but today we will look at a couple of catchers who have been red-hot over the last two weeks or so, and a surprising pitcher that could help keep your fantasy team in contention.
Joe Bart – C – Pirates – 14% CBS
Bart, once one of the top catching prospects in the game, has found a new life with the Pirates. He has taken over as the number one catcher with the Pirates and has shown no signs of giving up the spot. He has started behind the plate in 11 of the last 16 games, and with his hot bat, has DH’d in three others. Over his last 15 games, his is hitting .291 with a .914 OPS, four homers, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored. In the first three months of the season, he had just 64 at-bats. But since July 1, he is hitting .279 with six homers, 20 RBIs and 16 runs. The 27-year-old catcher has BABIP of .317 (league average is .290), but that has been fueled by his 43.1% hard hit rate (league average is 37.1). With his name being penciled in nearly every day in the Pirates lineup, he should be rostered in all two-catcher league and should be considered for one-catcher leagues of more than 12 teams. Over the last month, Bart is the top-rated catcher per CBS.
League size recommendation: 12-team leagues
