With Week 8 in the books, it’s time to take a look at the fantasy options who made their GMs scream with joy as they watched the points roll in. This article is not to help with waiver wire pickups, but rather just to give gold stars to the top performers of the week. To find our waiver wire column, click here. All stats are based on PPR scoring.
QB
Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins
29.18 Fantasy Points, QB1
29-for-36, 382 passing yards & three touchdowns, five carries for 19 yards
Tua has the best receiving duo in the league and it’s not even close with Ja’Marr Chase out of the equation with the Bengals due to his most recent injury. Because of the dominant weapons he has in the passing game, he doesn’t even have to be that accurate throwing the football as we saw witnessed in Week 8. Despite poor accuracy, Tagovailoa was still able to finish as the QB1 on the week, a pretty great sign for what lies ahead.
Justin Fields, Bears
26.04 Fantasy Points, QB3
17-for-23, 151 passing yards & two touchdowns, eight carries for 60 yards & one touchdown
Anyone who was able to scoop Fields off the wire after some really miserable weeks to start the season has to be very pleased with themselves based on what we’ve seen over the last four weeks. The Bears added even more confidence to fantasy managers of Fields at the deadline by bringing in additional receiving help in Chase Claypool. Fields could really be a second-half winner for fantasy managers given his ability to be a dual-threat, something that has always been favored in fantasy rather than the traditional pocket passer based on four points per throwing touchdown vs. the way we count rushing stats.
