Summertime heat and humidity are in the rearview mirror in many cities this weekend. A cold front is bringing cooler-than-average air to much of the country east of the Rockies. Parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes areas will be 10-15 degrees below average for this time of year. The cool air will linger into the beginning of next week.
The cool weather means that our hitters are looking at several days of worse-than-normal hitting conditions. Fortunately, temperatures in many areas will climb back to near normal by next Wednesday (September 10). Another bit of good news for early next week is that rain won’t threaten any games.
TARGETS:
This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments
- LA Dodgers at Baltimore (Friday only; 85 degrees for this game is good but storms on Saturday and cooler Sunday)
- Seattle at Atlanta (Friday-Sunday; a wonderful 88 degrees Friday then near 80 Saturday and Sunday)
- A’s at LA Angels (Friday-Sunday; we head west to find excellent 80-85 degree weather and no rain for this entire series)
- Cleveland at Tampa Bay (Friday-Sunday; as long as we avoid those classic Florida summertime thunderstorms, the 85 degree temps and decent humidity will create very good hitting conditions)
Targets for Early Next Week:
- Chicago Cubs at Atlanta (Monday-Wednesday; at 78 degrees for each game, this series will be one of next week’s warmest)
- Boston at A’s (Monday-Wednesday; exactly the same as above)
Those are the best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:
