How’d We Get Here?
The Magic were undone by tandem oblique strains to their two best players last season, with simultaneous injuries to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner taking the wind from the team’s sails. They were good enough to make the playoffs even after a big midseason lull but never rediscovered their early mojo. The Magic seem to know they have something good cooking, however, and cashed in a ton of assets to acquire Desmond Bane from the Grizzlies. He’s a near-perfect fit for the group and in an Eastern Conference that will suddenly be without Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton all season, Orlando looks ready to make a move up the board.
