How’d We Get Here?

The Rockets climbed out of the basement and back into the postseason, adding some legitimate veterans and a strong coach to accelerate things for a young core with lots of talent that just needed some support and guidance. They earned home court in the first round of the playoffs but fell to Steph Curry and the Warriors, setting the stage for a big summer. Houston was armed with a ton of assets and decided to push many of those chips into the center of the table. The Rockets acquired Kevin Durant from the Suns, putting them in the thick of a title contention window after only just getting out of the cellar. The rest of their moves reflected a new win-now attitude as Houston added 3-and-D role player Dorian Finney-Smith and old friend Clint Capela to help out up front. With Durant leading the charge and players like Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. still improving, the Rockets will be very dangerous if everything clicks.
