How’d We Get Here?
After a season in which the Bulls got into the Play-In almost by default but struck no fear into the hearts of anyone, some major changes were made. The Bulls let DeMar DeRozan leave town and traded one of the most sought-after names on the market in Alex Caruso, adding Josh Giddey in the process. The hope is that he can be the long-term answer at PG, and the Bulls have bet big on that outcome by choosing him over lots of draft compensation in that Caruso deal. Chicago chose to retain Patrick Williams after a few years of stop-start development but were unable to find any takers for Zach LaVine despite a hardcore canvasing of the league. The Bulls are different and definitely worse than last year, but pivoting towards something resembling a rebuild was long overdue.
