Baseball can be a game of soaring heights and cavernous lows. Sure, you may be riding the high of striking out the best batter in the sport on just three pitches – but if you’re not careful, that can change quickly as one revenge swing may send even your best offering 415 feet into the centerfield bleachers.

Fantasy baseball isn’t much different from its on-field counterpart. You may have been riding the hot hand of an early-season pitcher pickup, only to see them get crushed in an important head-to-head matchup.

The lesson? Fantasy is a fickle hobby and the only way to consistently find success is to consistently find the tiniest of competitive edges. With that in mind, today we’ll look to emulate the Rays’ famous mantra of finding “The Extra 2%” by examining some players who may not be contributors right now, but will be able to provide you that 2% edge come playoff time.
