Injuries still linger over the QB landscape, though we get a few key quarterbacks back from their bye weeks in Week 6.
Let’s go through the rankings for Week 6 as the fantasy season kicks into high gear.
| Rank | Player | Team | Opponent | Notes |
Josh Allen | BUF | ATL | Allen remains the king despite Sunday’s loss. He’s QB1 and projects to be QB1 going forward.
Patrick Mahomes | KC | DET | Mahomes is now the clear QB2 so far by double digits, and this Detroit matchup is a smash. He’s definitely QB2 this week for me.
Jayden Daniels | WAS | CHI | Daniels gets a cake matchup and is getting healthier. This should be a huge day for him.
Jalen Hurts | PHI | NYG | Hurts is in the same tier as the two above, but his offense isn’t high-volume enough right now for me to put him QB2.
Drake Maye | NE | NO | Although he didn’t have a big fantasy day, Maye rose to the occasion big time last week. This is a great matchup for this year’s QB7 in Week 6.
Justin Herbert | LAC | MIA | I’m a tad worried about Harbaugh starting to reign Herbert in with both tackles out. Still, the Miami matchup is a slam dunk, so Herbert gets the final top-half QB1 spot.
Dak Prescott | DAL | CAR | Prescott is cruising, the QB4 on the year. The Panthers matchup is a tricky one, because four quarters of passing aren’t guaranteed. Still, he’s a comfy start.
Baker Mayfield | TB | SF | Mayfield went to war in Seattle last week, and gets a trickier matchup this week. He’s the QB3 though, and this high-powered pass attack won’t let up.
Caleb Williams | CHI | WAS | Williams is 6th in PPG at QB, and this should be a shootout of sorts. He’s a clear starter this week.
Daniel Jones | IND | ARI | Jones has been an extremely steady QB1 for five weeks now. Arizona shouldn’t change that.
Matthew Stafford | LAR | BAL | Time to give Stafford his QB1 respect. He’s QB6 so far, and this Ravens defense will give him anything McVay chooses to scheme up.
Justin Fields | NYJ | DEN | Fields is straddling the line of a good fantasy QB who may lose his job because he’s so bad in real life. For now, it’s worth leaning into his rushing upside.
Bo Nix | DEN | NYJ | The flipside of this matchup has another struggling real life QB who is also producing in fantasy. Nix is doing enough to be on the QB1 borderline.
Jordan Love | GB | CIN | Great matchup for Love. His viability will depend on who scores the touchdowns, Josh Jacobs or the Packers’ pass catchers.
Jared Goff | DET | KC | Have a feeling this game will be a shootout, which is the sort of game that makes Goff viable.
Sam Darnold | SEA | JAC | An incredible performance has rocketed Darnold right to the edge of QB1 status. He’s fully in consideration as a week-to-week streamer.
Bryce Young | CAR | DAL | The stoppable force meets the movable object, as Young draws the easiest matchup on the board. If you’re desperate, this should work out.
Kyler Murray | ARI | IND | Murray isn’t practicing so far this week, and he’s not putting up much upside performance even so. He’d be off my radar this week.
Trevor Lawrence | JAC | SEA | Lawrence really popped against KC last week, and this Seattle defense is very banged up. He could be a sneaky great start, but this could also backfire significantly.
Spencer Rattler | NO | NE | Rattler has been an extremely steady QB2 so far, and this a good matchup for him. He’s sneaky appealing.
Geno Smith | LVR | TEN | It’s tough to trust Smith, but if you hold your nose and squint, he’s been a QB2 despite leading the league in picks, and Tennessee is terrible on both sides of the ball.
Mac Jones | SF | TB | Jones has been successful for fantasy so far when he’s started, despite his own injury issues. It looks like he’s likely to start, so he’s a risky play with some upside.
Michael Penix | ATL | BUF | Penix has a bye week advantage in this game, but he has to start putting up consistent output, particular in the TD department.
Tua Tagovailoa | MIA | LAC | I can think of a lot of things I’d rather do than play Tua against the Chargers, but he’s the QB19 so far, solidly a QB2.
Jaxson Dart | NYG | PHI | Just don’t know how much stock you can put into Dart on a short week against the Eagles, even with his scoring skillset. This feels like a trap.
Dillon Gabriel | CLE | PIT | It’s bullish for Gabriel that he looked decent in London and the Browns immediately axed the previous starter. Still need more proof of concept to play him in fantasy.
Aaron Rodgers | PIT | CLE | Really tough matchup to play a QB like Rodgers with zero rushing upside. Not one I’d consider at all this week.
Joe Flacco | CIN | KC | Flacco’s first start in Cincinnati is probably one week too soon to start streaming him, but there could be serious upside here soon with those receivers.
Cam Ward | TEN | LVR | Ward is one of the worst fantasy QBs in recent memory so far. He’s QB31 despite many leaguewide injuries and QB36 in PPG. He’s not usable yet.
Cooper Rush | BAL | LAR | Ravens Rush is possibly the least interesting fantasy QB I can remember. Please hurry back, Lamar.
| 31* | Brock Purdy | SF | TB | Purdy didn’t practice Wednesday, Were he to play, I’d rank him right about where I have Mac Jones. |
| 32* | Jacoby Brissett | ARI | IND | Murray didn’t practice Wednesday, so if Brissett starts, I’d rank him in the vicinity of Rodgers and Flacco. |
