Game Total 239Key Storylines
– Safe to Swim? The Wizards are flailing near the bottom of the NBA at just 6-26. Only the lowly Pistons have sunk below them with three wins. But the Wizards showed some competitiveness towards the end of December, and their big off-season pick ups Jordan Poole and Tyus Jones have flashed offensively at times. In their first game of the new year, will the Wizards potential fantasy stars make their case for rest-of-season fantasy relevance, or trend again towards a drop?
– Down But Not Out: The Cavs are losers of three of their last five, and the last two came with All-Star Donovan Mitchell back in the lineup. With Darius Garland and Evan Mobley both out for an extended period, the Cavs had rallied around Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and Max Strus to best the Luka-led Mavericks the game before. In the last two games, when the Cavs’ hot shooters LeVert and Strus ran cold, it was left to Mitchell and Allen to carry the offense on their own. The misbegotten Wizards offer a great opportunity for the Cavs to come together around Mitchell and Allen to get off the schneid.
